This is too sad. My heart goes out to this boy's family.

Sep 27, 2009 7:05 pm US/Pacific Boy, 16, Dies After Cliff Jump At Lake Natoma
More Local NewsFOLSOM, Calif. (CBS13)

A teenage boy died after jumping into the water at Lake Natoma from cliffs frequented by young daredevils.

The 16-year-old boy was last seen jumping off of the cliffs with a group of friends at about 5:00 p.m. near Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point -- an area known as China Wall -- and never resurfaced.

Drowning Accident Rescue Team (DART) crews searched the area and located his body at about 7:00 p.m.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Many of the cliffs at Lake Natoma, including China Wall, are favorites of daredevils who post their exploits on video sharing sites like YouTube.

That is so sad. I see kids crossing Folsom Blvd. to go over there to swim all the time.

I figured that all the sirens were for a jumper, sad to hear he was killed.

The next video after the above link had lots more jumps. The rope swing looked OK, but the running jumpers, some it looked like still barely made it to the water.

This is tragically sad.

This isn't a tragedy, it's stupidity. A blind 30ft jump into changing waters is just dumb. On the news tonight they were talking to some other kids (not sure if they were his friends or there with him) but they almost seemed to be laughing at the whole incident. Pitiful.

A soldier dying for his country is tragic, a kid jumping off a bridge or a cliff is a stupid action and obviously they have no clue of the implications of their behavior.

Teen drowns in Lake Natoma
By Don Chaddock, The Telegraph

Tony Isaacson, 16, of Rocklin was fished from Lake Natoma in Folsom two hours after he dove in from the bluff known as China Wall.

Witnesses say he dove into the lake from the bluff, but never resurfaced.

The bluff is a popular jumping spot, but the bluff-diving is a misdemeanor.

The Drowning Accident Rescue Team retrieved the body from the water about 7 p.m. Sunday, about two hours after he dove into the water.

China Wall is located near Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point Road in Lake Natoma, downstream from Folsom Lake.

It’s called being young and thinking you’re invincible. We told our boys they absolutely were not allowed to do the jump, however, they are in their 20s now and talk about having done it (more than once) and how often the rope swing was taken down by authorities. My kids are not juvenile delinquents or stupid. Most of us did things that except for the grace of God… and lived to tell about it. I find it tragic when someone pays for their youthful bad judgment with their life – he wasn’t being malicious or destructive - except to himself and his family and he just never thought it could happen to him.

I only posted that video so parents would think about talking to their kids.
My older two children only told us they had done this very recently. They're both in their twenties now.

My heart goes out to the family of the young man.

I'm sorry you see it that way. Yes, jumping off that particular cliff doesn't look to be the safest in my eyes either, but as is obvious by the videos, kids are doing it all the time and surviving. Just because it was a stupid thing to do, doesn't change the fact the death of child for that family isn't a tragic ending.

I think definition #2 applies, so yes, it is a tragedy.

Honestly it was only a matter of time before this happened again. There are several sites along the lake the you can jump from safely but China Wall is not one of them. The drop has to be about 50 to 60 feet and the cliff edge juts out at an outward facing angel. In an attempt to stop people from jumping a little fence thing was put in front of China Wall. All this did was to show people where China Wall is at and block the safest place to jump. A friend of mine in high school shattered one of this legs jumping off that stupid cliff.

I have to agree with Darth on this one, to jump off that cliff is a deathwish.

okay, so state parks cuts down the rope swing that was safer than just jumping off and that doesn't stop jumping, then they put up a fence and that makes it unsafer still. what next? maybe they should put up a sign with the names of people who have been killed or injured there. seems like its hard to stop kids from doing something like this, but maybe it will at least put a little fear in them.

I'm very sorry for the loss. Accidents like this happen all the time to teenagers because their brains haven't developed to really understand the potential consequences of their actions. I know mine hadn't.
