The next video after the above link had lots more jumps. The rope swing looked OK, but the running jumpers, some it looked like still barely made it to the water.
This is tragically sad.

This is tragically sad.
This isn't a tragedy, it's stupidity. A blind 30ft jump into changing waters is just dumb. On the news tonight they were talking to some other kids (not sure if they were his friends or there with him) but they almost seemed to be laughing at the whole incident. Pitiful.
A soldier dying for his country is tragic, a kid jumping off a bridge or a cliff is a stupid action and obviously they have no clue of the implications of their behavior.

Teen drowns in Lake Natoma
By Don Chaddock, The Telegraph
Tony Isaacson, 16, of Rocklin was fished from Lake Natoma in Folsom two hours after he dove in from the bluff known as China Wall.
Witnesses say he dove into the lake from the bluff, but never resurfaced.
The bluff is a popular jumping spot, but the bluff-diving is a misdemeanor.
The Drowning Accident Rescue Team retrieved the body from the water about 7 p.m. Sunday, about two hours after he dove into the water.
China Wall is located near Folsom Boulevard and Iron Point Road in Lake Natoma, downstream from Folsom Lake.

I only posted that video so parents would think about talking to their kids.
My older two children only told us they had done this very recently. They're both in their twenties now.
My heart goes out to the family of the young man.

I've always thought there could be nothing worse than losing your child.

I'm sorry you see it that way. Yes, jumping off that particular cliff doesn't look to be the safest in my eyes either, but as is obvious by the videos, kids are doing it all the time and surviving. Just because it was a stupid thing to do, doesn't change the fact the death of child for that family isn't a tragic ending.
I think definition #2 applies, so yes, it is a tragedy.

okay, so state parks cuts down the rope swing that was safer than just jumping off and that doesn't stop jumping, then they put up a fence and that makes it unsafer still. what next? maybe they should put up a sign with the names of people who have been killed or injured there. seems like its hard to stop kids from doing something like this, but maybe it will at least put a little fear in them.
I'm very sorry for the loss. Accidents like this happen all the time to teenagers because their brains haven't developed to really understand the potential consequences of their actions. I know mine hadn't.
