Just seeing if you or your family have had more flu symptoms lately or know of someone who has been more sick than usual. According to CDPH it is widespread, lets see what our Folsom people have to say. If you have any stories, lets share to get the word out.

We have had a whirlwind with my family and this H1N1 neither case super serious but odd that the diagnosis was so different for two kids that seemed to have the same symptoms. My son (12yr old) came home from school on a Wednesday with a fever and feeling run down two days later he was feeling OK but had this annoying tickle like cough and telling me his stomach hurt (no vomiting or anything) so after two days I took him into urgent care Dr said he has bronchitis and pneumonia- he felt that it was caused by some kind of "Influenza" but wouldn't say H1N1 just some kind of "Influenza" gave him a zpak, Albuterol Inhaler and Musinex a week later (yesterday) and he is much better and hardly coughing. So now the next kid my nephew (whom my son was with during the incubation period) had all the same symptoms to the "T" he went to dr and he said he had Bronchitis and was positive (without testing) that it was H1N1 that started it..

So now my sister and I are kind of wondering did they have it? or not? and now the rest of the 2 families have been exposed our mom got something but it to was mild and she is better.. I guess it's waiting game now to see if anyone else does get it and go in and be tested -- in the mean time not sure if we should be vaccinated or

Noone in my family has gotten sick but my son's classroom had a rash of sickies. 6 out of 18 of his fellow classmates were out sick and eventually, so was his teacher. That was a couple of weeks ago. This tuesday, my son & I will go get our shots.
I would rather be Backpacking

Let us know how it goes. Are you getting the h1n1 vaccine or mist? Thru your MD or Clinic?
My husband works at Sutter and nothing there yet as far as vaccine. He is going to get it.

son started with sore throat and fever, went to chest and sinus over 24 hr period. fever climbed, cough worsened, the next 24, that evening coughing every couple of minutes. went to e.r., xrays show beginning pneumonia, fever continuing to climb, swine swabbed and admitted. stayed for 5 days, positive for swine came back on day 4. cough lasted a couple weeks. hindsight reveals that daughter had exact same thing 48 hours before son, so docs just treated her as if she'd been swabbed and tested. i had very light symptoms during the hospital stay, tickly cough, low grade fever, scratchy throat for 2 days. don't know if i had it lightly or not......

neither kid will be getting swine shot, don't need it! haven't decided yet if i need to or not.....all of us had seasonal flu shot at the end of august....

I am so happy your children are ok. You probably did have it.
Thanks for sharing. At least your MD did right by you. Can you include the name of the Md treating and the Hospital ? If you do not want to that is fine.

My 18 month old daughter has had a very rough flu. The pediatrician stated that its possible H1N1. She put her on Tamiflu and predisone. the vaccine can't come soon enough because of the devastating effects on children, this H1N1 is very serious, dangerous, and deadly. Thank God, my daughter is doing better now, but still so weak with not much apetite.

The test results for H1N1 takes 1-2 weeks to come back. Based on CREDIBLE and scientific evidence as cited by the CDC and the WHO as well as Mayo clinic, this H1N1 is unusually dangerous for kids as compared to the regular flu.

My 6 year old and 3 year old as well as both the Mrs and myself also battled the flu this weekend, but not as bad as our lil one.

I wish the CDC would tell what the symptoms are for people who have it "mild."

About 2 weeks ago, my daughter and I both had sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, feeling exhausted. But, we did NOT have fever or body aches. I wondered if it could be a mild case of H1N1, but I decided it was probably just a bad cold.

The other day I heard that some people may have H1N1 with NO symptoms, so I'm still kind of wondering...

yes, we were all very lucky. pediatrician is in rancho and he said i could take my son in that night or wait until the morning....thankfully i opted for right that minute!!!! i took him to mercy san juan, as i refuse to ever set foot inside mercy folsom again. i keep hearing horror stories about hospitals and treatment, but i can only say wonderful things about the care my son received at mercy san juan. lucky for him, the e.r. docs started him on 2 different IV antibiotics immediately AND tamiflu, all in the e.r. before we ever were admitted. the antibiotics were going to treat the pneumonia assuming it was bacterial. however, they decided to swab for swine AND then while we waited the 3.5 days for the results from the health dept to come back, they would also treat him for swine, just in case (early treatment/tamiflu is key)....then once the health dept notified the hospital with a confirmed or denied case of swine, they would stop one of the treatments. i am very grateful that they took the progressive approach and zapped him with both options while we waited. i am certain that is why everything turned out for the best.

Speaking of horror stories pertaining to Mercy Folsom. I took my 6 year old about 3 weeks ago for some respitory issues. The attending drs and nurses stated that he had a very bad case of pneumonia. they even did a chest X ray to confirm this diagnoses and put him on IV's and other meds. the next day I took him to his pediatrician and she looked at the same X ray (i took them with me for her to review) and she did NOt see the same thing. In fact, she laughed because she never heard of Pneumonia without a fever. He was diagnosed with a bad case of allergies and was fine a few days later. A very bad case of Pneumonia was Mercy Folsom's Professional diagnoses. Idiots.

Yes, I've looked at much of this information.

These sites all present the "standard" list of possible flu symptoms, but really don't discuss whether it is common to have H1N1 without fever or body aches.

my #1 question that I can't seem to find anywhere is what are the survival rates for babies 9 month - 3 years old?

I can find all the negative stories but are there any positive anywhere? I have one 9 month and one 2 year so I would like to have a hope should they come down with it...

I can STONLY suggest this. If you take your HEALTHY child to any dr's office then make the appointment so they are the first to be seen in the morning and have them wait outside until their appointment time is ready.

I went to my dr's appointments for our healthy girls well checks the other day and had to refuse to bring them into the building as well as reschedule after being disgusted by how things were being handled. There was at least 6 kids horribly sick with masks on wondering around the waiting room. There is NO rooms separated for the healthy kids... its an absolute nightmare. If the health systems can't even figure out a way to separate healthy babies from horribly sick kids then we have SERIOUS issues. I felt like it was Katrina all over again...

Dr's and staff all agreed that it shouldn't have been like that but somebody needs to do something about it.

One final note... don't go out to eat if you have a bad cough. Please! Even if its not swine flu.

Every single Dr I've talked to now basis the H1N1 on Fever mainly. Body aches are right up there too.

Sorry to hear about your family. Now there is all different types of flu, upper respiratory, etc going around. So at least the MD swabbed her. It should not take that long since the state of the art lab is in Richmond, but I guess they are backlogged. If you all had the H1N1 then why would you get the vaccine? You now have natural immunity, which is better. Anyway, it is your choice obviously, but I very happy the baby is doing better and she will continue to do so. I do not even know when we are going to get the vaccine here, I know Kaiser has it, and I know 1.3 million doses of injectable were shipped to california on 10/21/09. I know San Diego, has got alot, so maybe they are going from bottom of California to top. Good luck to you.
