PILOT HILL, CA - Three Folsom teens were killed and the driver escaped with minor injuries after their car skidded off an El Dorado County road and slammed into a tree early Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened on a winding stretch of Salmon Falls Road south of Pond View Road in El Dorado County around 12:40 a.m. Sunday, CHP Sgt. Todd Brown said.
Investigators said the 2006 Subaru Impreza carrying three boys and a girl was speeding northbound when the teen driver lost control and crashed into a large oak tree, Brown said.
The teens sitting in the back of the car were pronounced dead at the scene. Another teen was taken by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
The driver was also taken to Sutter Roseville and treated for minor injuries before being released, Brown said.
Brown said the driver faces possible vehicular manslaughter charges. There was no indication that drugs or alcohol played any role in the crash.
The names of the victims were not immediately released. A friend of one of the victims told News10 all four teens were from Folsom.

It's gotta be awful for the guy driving too, he lost 3 friends AND will likely go to jail for contributing to their deaths. I'm not saying the kid speeding was the sole cause of the crash (since it was middle of the night), but it reminds you how just a little mistake can cost someone their life, cars are so dangerous when you think about it!

It's hard to say exactly what happened. Was the driver speeding for fun, possibly, but he could have also been surprised by a sudden sharp turn at night and wasn't necessarily joy-riding. Or it's possible a deer jumped out and he swerved to miss the deer only to have created a worse tragedy than just hitting the deer. I hope for the driver's sake it was just a horrible accident and not a result of him driving with reckless abandon. either way, he is stuck with having to live with himself. If he's guilty of a crime, then he will likely deserve whatever the judge throws at him.

Sad for all.
The "worst driver" had a Subaru Impreza WRX which is basically a street legal Rally car. Sounds like the kid driving was a worse driver than the owner.
When will these kids learn to slow down. Super sad story.

I always think about that nanosecond when those who create an accident because of a risk taken realize, "I can't take it back."

There is more in the comment section on News10 about this. Teens + drifting = tragedy.

Basically you take a corner at a high rate of speed and slide sideways while braking and using your e-brake. There are different ways of doing it. (see below)
Drifting' refers to a driving technique and to a motorsport where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels through turns, while maintaining vehicle control and a high exit speed. A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle prior to the corner apex, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right or vice versa), and the driver is controlling these factors. As a motor sport, professional drifting competitions are held across the world.
