I've been e-mailing back and forth with a not-so-friendly responder at the other end of waterquality@folsom.ca.us and it seems that although the water is tested daily, and sometimes more, the report which reflects only the years averages is made available only mid-year for the previous year and he/she is happy to quote that that's all the State requires them to do.

I'm a freshwater fish hobbyist and was hoping to easily view the results, at the office or on-line, at least once a week just so I can avoid investing in all the more testing reagents at home.

I do hear of some water companies that post test results weekly if not daily but it sure is not ours here in wonderful Folsom.

Any insight?

Next time you talk to them ask them to lower the chlorine dosage, there's way too much of it in our water here.

You've probably already seen this, but just in case you haven't here's a link to the 2008 consumer confidence report.

Although the section on water quality is not yet up, this new My Water Quality Web Portal may soon (January) offer the sort of information you're looking for, especially if the local water utilities aren't going to publish or share such information.

Our own San Juan Water District website doesn't seem to offer more than the annual Consumer Confidence Report either... It might be interesting to compare the water delivered to us North Folsom residents to your source....

What WQ information were you hoping to find, and on what regular basis would it be beneficial to your home aquatic hobbying...?

Not sure what they are treating our water with to ' clean ' it but this past summer my sprinkler valves were not closing all the way so I had a little leakage at the end of some of the lines.... took the top of the valve off and saw that the rubber diaphragm had been eaten away?! The owner of Sprinkler Supply and Service in Carmichael said he thought the water was being over-treated with something.... maybe that's why I have a little leakage.

Thanks for that portal, hopefully when up it proves to be beneficial.

The ones I'm mainly looking at are Hardness ppm (parts per million) and pH in standard units.

I do partial water changes using tap water every Friday and it would be most beneficial to me to be able to view the results of that days tests at best but I'll take what I can get and adjust my schedule to fit if need be of course.

had to do some major plumbing replacements a few weeks ago and my plumber said the same, that it looked like the water was being over-treated and eating away some pipe seals

why would you do that to your fish. tap water is not good enough for you, why would you make your fish swim in it.

Ny Times posted a story in today's paper (on line) about drinking water throughout the US. You can search by state, county, and city. Folsom is listed here.
