Part of this page was sent from a UC Listserve run out of the office of the President, can’t vouch for it’s accuracy. The rest of the article is interesting. http://weatherwest.c..._weather/?p=386
There's a much less technical refers to the same models and systems, but without the extreme predictions. http://northstarsnow.blogspot.com/
A couple other links from outside of CA:

I'd like to venture to it with the kids - maybe get some sledding / tubing in for a couple of hours this weekend. Does anyone know the best/closest place to stop somewhere along the 50 corridor?
Thanks -

I always recommend the Echo Summit snow park (now known as Adventure Mountain). It's worth the extra distance for available parking and good, maintained runs - esp. if you are going to be there for a couple of hours. Only $15 per car.
There's a much closer gas station past Pollock Pines that I've heard recommended. I've driven by it on 50 but never used for sledding/tubing.

Anyone know when the worst is supposed to hit?
I'm wondering if I should try and weather it out in my son't fort on Sunday.

This Sunday won't be the worst of it. The series of storms that are headed this way will each get stronger and stronger. The one that is coming through Saturday is going to prep the area, get it wet and clear the path for the following storms. Snow ratios are predicting to be 15:1 and show 4-5" of moisture in the Sierras just East of us through next Thursday. Looks like Sacramento is predicted to get 5-6". Some spots north of here between 6-10".

Then models show MORE coming after this band of storms. Maybe you should weather it out in an ark?

OK, I broke down and clicked on all of the hyperlinks above.
To sum it up,
batten down the hatches folks, el nino is rearing it's ugly head and we are expected to get some major rainfall. Expect mudslides in the news, localized flooding, and possibly larger flooding when the rivers rise.

Now you're getting it! Major shiz.

I think Saturday should be fine, Sunday is when the first system is due to hit. At least that's what I thought I read.
