The House has voted (219-212) on Obama's health care bill.

For those of you asking "where's the change Obama promised" some of it will soon be signed into law.

Oh joy....! This might just break the back of the American taxpayer.....! Come November, when we clean house, we'll try to undo the damage you and your friends have done. Chris

A $trillion dollars for health care over the next 10 years. Maybe it will do some good for some American citizens. So far in the last 7 years we have spent over $1 trillion dollars on the Iraq war and all we have to show for it is dead and wounded troops and no real end in sight. I don't like parts of this bill either but at least it's our money going to our people not some God-forsaken hole in the Middle East. Time will tell if it is the right decision but at least it is better than the decisions made by the last regime (and God help me I voted for them).

Interesting perspective. This debate has been going on for so long... I'm impressed you had something new to say about it!

I have never stated my opinion on this health care reform bill. Thanks for picking my stance though.

"A $trillion dollars for health care over the next 10 years."

Too bad it only pays for 6 years...what happens when we have to fully finance the next ten years? What happens when the states have to start picking up the slack from the "savings" (financial voodoo) the O touted? What happens when doctors decide that they aren't going to let the government dictate how much money they can make?
Do you really feel comfortable with your government forcing you to buy something at the end of the IRS gun just for existing?
What comes next? That is the big question...

You wanted change, you got it... All bow down to those that know what's best for us in the exponentially more pwerful federal government.

That rumble you hear is the founding fathers turning in their graves.

One of the best concise analysis I have heard in regards to this. Thank you!!

That is one of the most flawed arguments I have ever heard.

This was a really expensive thing we did, so let's do something else really expensive because it won't be as "bad".
To put it in terms you might be able to understand, your argument is that if employee A was embezzling, things got out of hand and someone got shot, you wouldn't have a problem with employee B embezzling because he gives a portion of the money to charity.

How about judging each action on it's own merits? Both are wrong... gah.gif

This is what moral relativism gets you folks...

Good grief.

someone check my math here.

$1,000,000,000,000 (1 trillion) for 10 years
/ 300,000,000 Americans = $3333(per american for 10 years)
/10 years = $333 per person/per year
/12 months = 27.75 per month/per person
/30 days = 93 cents per day per american.

Call me crazy, but for 93 cents a day, I think the benefits out weigh the negatives. I've cut out 2 Starbucks runs a week so I'm already ahead.

OK, I'll check your math. The first flaw in your premise is that this covers us all.
The actual fact is that nearly 300 million of us were already insured, so this new law only covers the 30-40 million uninsured. The second flaw in your math was that this is for 10 years. It collects money for 10 years, but only pays out for 6. So let's recalculate:

There are 2190 days of coverage (6 years x 365).
There are (figuring high) 45 million people that will receive coverage (the rest of us only receive a bill)

That means there are 98,550,000,000 person/days of coverage

Assuming this stays on budget (HA!) that will result in approximately $10.15 per day per person

If you take illegals out of the mix (ha!), You would nearly double the cost per person.

So where is the money coming from? Half comes from cutting Medicare...but, but, but, how can you cut payments and still get care? Answer, you can't. Unless you transfer the bill to the individual states. Call it a twisted version of spreading the wealth around. Hmmm, spreading the health around...I like it. Another 200 billion comes from cuts in doctor reimbursements that will never happen...and if it does, you will see a mass exodus of those doctors that will provide services to this program. Since we are already short on doctors, this will result in (get ready for it) long waits, inadequate care, etc.... funny, where have I heard of that type of service before...

Of course, we are only talking dollars and cents...the true costs are incalculable.

More taxes and 16,000 more IRS agents, this can't be good. The only way I'll ever believe this is good for America, is when the people who voted to approve it are using it themselves.

This is what happens when Liberals run things. They believe that Govt is the be-all, end-all. What a joke. This country is imploding in slow-motion. Gotta love that hope & change!!

Best editorial in the Bee today: a columnist points out that this bill actually contains all the provisions Republicans have been advocating for years -- it's a market-based approach and basically the same program that Mitt Romney enacted in Massachusetts. It has virtually nothing that Dems have always wanted -- e.g., a single payer or a public option.

Yet now the Republicans won't support what they spent years advocating!!

The "party of no," indeed...

Governing against the will of the people....nice!!

The Left is destructive and dangerous. We'll get our revenge in November. Time to put Conservatives in charge...people who will listen to their constituents. It's called a Representative Republic for a reason, folks.

Sometimes I swear Liberals are children.
