I would think it would help all you homeowners near the district to have more routes to get around the only concern would be the Bar traffic and weekend traffic.

Go sit at the stop sign at Coloma and Figueroa for a single rush-hour. That place is a death trap w/ the barriers down.
Or watch the crazies cutting through Natoma to Figueroa to Riley, to avoid the right-on-red at Riley. Instead, they cut out in front of 35+ mph Riley traffic with no light. It's insane. And what are they accomplishing? Cutting in front of the safe legal drivers that were ahead of them in line on Natoma. Often cutting off the car that was directly in front of them before they took the "shortcut". Wow, flying through a residential neighbourhood, to beat people rightfully in front of you, by jamming onto a 35mph street with no controls. That's a good, safe, idea!

The next time you take a shortcut through the HD, come back here and post your route. I'd love to hear why you took the shortcut and how much time it saved.

I used to live in the HD and was constantly impeded by the barriers. To get to the north side of the river I had to either drive the entire length of Sutter and back to Rainbow, or more-often-than-not dump out to Natoma and take Riley or Folsom/Auburn through.
Even with this *daily* inconvenience, I am an ardent supporter of the barriers and controls. Artery roads should be used to direct traffic flow safely through the district, not the residential surface streets that already experience commercial (bar) traffic and parking issues (getting locked in because some drunk parked on your driveway).
The bar traffic actually isn't that bad. It's kinda annoying when the motorcycles all peel out at 1:30am. But I would say that by-far, the worst is the commute traffic. The self-entitled business men and women that feel they don't deserve to sit in traffic like everyone else, and risk life and limb to fly through the residential district to get a few cars ahead. 8am on a Wednesday and Coloma is an expressway.
Hmm, I'm trying to remember. I think we moved in a few months before they were put in. I spent a lot of time in the neighbourhood, prior. Which was mostly post-Dam closure. Even as an inconvenienced resident, I'm still pro-barriers.
There is NOTHING to gain for the residents by removing them. Traffic is already bad and dangerous with the commercial district traffic (and the few illegals hopping the barriers as they stand today). Removing them will only increase an already dangerous problem.
The Historic District is a Commercial and Residential neighbourhood. It is not a "shortcut" from Folsom to Granite Bay.

After all, Folsom has become a speedway wherever you live, so why should the HD be immune from it??

You should have gone to the meeting last week and made your voice heard there, might have helped.... also be sure to vote for Ernie Sheldon again when the time comes, he was on your side and the only person who voted against it.

Actually, I figured it would take me longer to go that way. My route was Bidwell to right on Coloma to left on Natoma to right on Scott. There's no way that I would speed through that area as my car is always in danger of the front end bottoming out at the intersections in that area. In fact, I barely crawl through some of those intersections. (So I guess there are already natural speed bumps/barriers -- at least for my car--not for a SUV. )

I think some of the speeders and shortcutters are folks from gated communities where they live on comparably peaceful streets and don't hear Jeff Gordon wannabe roaring down the street. They get a fraction of the traffic and they have to follow a 12 - 20 mph speed limit or the HOA gets after them.
