We haven't been impressed with any of the BBQ places around (Texas West, BBQ Express, Back Forty) but, just a few miles up the 50, there is a small place called Sierra Smokehouse. http://www.sierrasmokehousebbq.com/
They have excellent ribs, good sides (at least the beans, slaw and corn bread) and a nice, friendly owner who seems to genuinely appreciate your business.
We usually smoke our own ribs, but when we don't want to spend several hours babysitting the smoker, we'll get take out from there.

I let this one go too long.... Let me preface this by saying I have eaten at every BBQ location in the area as well as Woodland and Lincoln. They all produce pretty good Q.
I made the trip up 50 to the Cambrige Rd. exit and paid a visit to the Sierra Smokehouse...the owners Ed and his wife Heidi are sanctioned judges of the KCBS, translated the Kansas City Barbque Society. You can bet they have tasted some of the good, better and best of BBQ. A very lofty organization for sure. Well they take their refined tastes and produce what I can only describe as the Best! in these parts.. every item I tasted, ribs, pulled pork, chopped brisket, and plump chicken thigh were cooked to absolute perfection!!! What you and I get served is the same food they would present to judges in a competition cook-off. I know where I am going when I get a hankerin' for Great BBQ!! give them a try... you will agree. And yes they do have a kids menu...

He, He, I was expecting that one from Mylo LOL.....All I can say that this is the Real Deal in BBQ.... Make sure you try their various sauces as they are expertly prepared to match the different types of meats. Much like wine and food pairings are done.

How's their lunches? I find really good BBQ is hard to do for lunch, especially with slow turnaround.

I will answer my own question:

Very tasty!

Service was slammed. Apparently his help got poison oak so he was scrambling by himself for a relatively busy lunch service. It took a while, but after the food showed up it was great!

Will certainly be back, maybe in a week or two after the poison oak clears up wink.gif

After reading this earlier in the week my kids and I made plans to head up there tonight. I thought the ribs were outstanding and we liked the sides too. I told Ed I found out about him from myfolsom.com and he mentioned that he saw the Carnivore! Great little place and a very cool owner. We'll be going back!

I recently had lunch there and all I can say is wow! When I had just about given up hope of finding a quality BBQ joint nearby I found this place. THe owner is super cool and you can tell he is passionate about making great BBQ. THe only downside I can see to the place is a lack of seating.

We tried the Sierra Smokehouse in Cameron Park for lunch this week as well. They must be wondering why all these new people are coming in! It was very good. I had the lunch basket with pulled pork, coleslaw and baked beans. Pork was good, all good meat with no sauce on it. There were three types of sauce in squeeze bottles on the table, which is nice since I always seem to want more sauce in these places. Unfortunately their Carolina-style sauce wasn't as good as you get in Lexington, N.C., but their other two sauces were great and I enjoyed them. The coleslaw was fresh and nice. The baked beans were delicious, but had way too much sauce and not enough beans. We also tried the ribs, which were excellent. Next time we're getting the chicken and the brisket. It was cold and we wanted some hot tea and the owner offered to run across the parking lot to get us some from the coffee shop nearby, which was sweet. I ran over and got them for us instead, but he was nice to offer. great little spot and we'll be back soon. Whoever mentioned them in the first place, thank you!
