Ever since reading an article in Outside magazine about eating according to your blood type, I've been intrigued. The author basically tried 6 diets over the course of a year and according to his doctor this diet yielded the best 'numbers' in both weight, blood suger, cholestrol etc. The writer also reported that he felt the best on it - mind, body and spirit.

I am interested in pursuing just to see how I feel. For my blood type, I am not supposed to eat grains, wheat or corn. So for me to give those up, it has to be worth it!! LOL!

Has anyone tried this diet? Advice? Thoughts?

That diet has been widely panned by experts.

The most healthful diet, as many studies have concluded, is a vegetarian diet.

Vegetarians have leas heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension than those who regularly consume animal protein.

It's just a fact. I didn't want to hear it, or believe it, as I love meat and cheese, but I am convinced.

I'd suggest reading the book, 'Eat to Live' by Dr. Joel Fuhrman http://www.drfuhrman.com/ -

I second this book! Dr. Fuhrman is on the cutting edge of this area of study -- diet to cure heart disease, diabetes, obesity, etc.

Another FABULOUS book that I wholly recommend is the China Study, by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. He has spent his entire career researching cancer for various groups and the book really gives so much scientific information about every disease, its cause and its prevention.

Here's to health! smile.gif

What I really like about Dr. Fuhrman is that he hasn't come up with a gimmick.
He presents the data, sources it, and shows that people who eat mostly plants live longer, healthier lives.

Thanks. I suspected it wasn't "all that" (and a bag of chips) , but thought I'd look into it. biggrin.gif

The funny thing is that I was a veggie for years and yet did not lose 1 lb. on it. I eat very healthy, just too much of it. I love food too much! :-/ I'll check out the book you suggested - I'm always open to new ways of eating.

I've also heard that calorie-restriction leads to a longer life. But who wants to live a miserable 90 starving -yourself years? I want a happy 80 years full of yummy food! :-)

I don't diet, so take this with a grain of salt, but I found the introduction to the South Beach Diet to be really practical. I don't believe the hype of the diet itself, rather the theories and fundamentals behind it were pretty darn sound. While I never followed the diet, I have incorporated what I read in the introduction into my eating habits.

I have the cookbook and use it from time to time. Agreed, good principles. I know that someone on here is gluten free (Chef Raven?) - curious how that fits in.

Any good books/websites about this diet/lifestyle? I have progressively gained 5lbs per month for the last 18months...and I'm on track to gain another 5 this month. I've tried everything and I just cannot loose the weight. I have had every hormone tested or any other test done on my body and technically I am fit as a fiddle. The only thing I can think that may be causing the issue is the IUD (female birth control). Nothing else has really changed besides that. I've always been 15-20lbs overweight, over a hundred is just crazy. My doctor keeps assuring me it's not the IUD but I cannot understand why I gained weight soooo quickly.

Have you had your thyroid checked? I know you said you had every hormone checked, but thyroid is usually the culprit.

You should write down EVERYTHING you eat. It might tell you something. Sometimes we eat more than we think, or are just making bad choices.

I hope you figure it out. sad.gif

based on another topic of yours, I would chalk it up to stress. Whether stress has changed your bodies calorie hording method or stress has changed your eating habits, I don't know, but I would put Stress at the top of the list as possible causes

Nope...thyroid is fine. I have tried to eat less. It makes it worse. I've tried to eat more and i've continued to gain. I have always gained weight when using birth control. I averaged 130-140 off birth control, 160-170 while on birth control, now I weigh 260. Averaging 5 lbs every month since having my son/getting the IUD 18 months ago.

I would recommend getting some exercise, it should help with your weight gain as well as serve as stress reduction in your life. Exercise is therapeutic for the body and the brain.

I am a active person. I workout everyday, do house chores and tons of outside weeding/gardening...plus running after my 18 month son everyday. I agree that I was much more active before I had my son...nevertheless the nearly 100 lbs is not because I am lazy or eat all day. Please believe I have thought of both those variables.
