I was just thinking after seeing the title page at MyFolsom about the businesses all affected by the bridge traffic, that we could do a little rally to help the businesses down there.

I challenge everyone to buy at least one Christmas gift from an Old Folsom shop! Let's show them some love and help keep them in business.

I'm going to get my gifts for my parents there. Snooks is an easy stop for my Dad, but I'll have to do a little more browsing for my mom.

Anyone else interested?

Jen

Hey JenJen

Great idea!

I think I could find things for my family at Clouds, Planet Earth Rising, American Visions, Ms. Teaz, that Hot Sauce shop, and many others.

That is a wonderful idea.

Last week I purchased five Christmas gifts on Sutter Street. I wish I could say that my motivations were as good as jenjen's. But the truth is that I simply happened upon some nice gifts, and purchased them. (Sorry, Steve....I did NOT patronize Ms. Teaz! ohmy.gif biggrin.gif )

I agree that we should all try to meet jen's challenge of making at least one Sutter St. purchase.

I saw a set of china on Sutter St. that matches my great grandmothers so that might be gone soon too. I hope its not too expensive so for Christmas I will have a matching set for all to eat their dinner off of. biggrin.gif

Great stuff!

Misty and I have purchased X-mas gifts from English Rose, and the William’s Carriage House to date. We do anticipate many others from the street in the weeks to come - Especially Planet Earth Rising (our daughter love all their stuff as do we).

I'll make this a big deal of the day soon... here's an article on it:

We'll see if the press picks up on it.

Good idea! Was there this weekend and found lots of decorations I need to go back to purchase in the Christmas store. I also purchased a mattress across the river from European Sleep Design - that should count for something, even if it was a gift to ourselves?! biggrin.gif

I wanted to revisit your original post. There are many businesses that continue to be affected by the road closure. Many of those are not in the historic area.

I post this for some selfish reasons, in addition to unselfish ones.

I have recently opened a boutique near the intersection of Folsom Auburn & Greenback. In speaking with some of my neighboring shops here in the Hillswood Plaza and across the street in the Pavillions, it has become apparent that they too have suffered.

Granted, I took a chance in opening my boutique during this frail time in the area, and it has shown in the amount of people who have visited my shop, but many other established shops did not take that chance. They are simply trying to ride out the tough times.

Some of those businesses may not have a gift for the holidays to offer, but they offer valuable services to many people.

So, may I also pose a challenge to visit my shop and my neighbors. We are all hardworking individuals that have many things to offer.

Thanks for your time!

(Bump)

Stopped by and bought several pieces of jewelry for the wife at two shops, one antique, the other new (shhhh). Every year, I buy See's candy for my staff, but this year I plan on going back to Old Town in the next week to buy Snook's.

I bought a new wallet/checkbook for my wife at Ms. Teaz. It's seems that photo purses and wallets are popular with the ladies these days. I got her one with Audrey Hepburn on it. Don't tell her!

I will buy at Clouds for Christmas. My wife and I frequent Seasons on Sutter, My Brother Vinny's, Chicago Fire - Pizza and Snooks.

All great places.

Among my top favorites on Sutter Street is Pacific Western Traders. Hardly anyone knows its there, but its regionally famous. It is Native American (i.e. masks, baskets, southwest pottery, blankets, all authentic) and there is nothing like it anywhere else in northern California. It's up the hill on Wool from Snooks. Mr. Puffer doesn't go out of his way to advertise because the world comes to him.

also, love Rainbow Jewelers for jewelry, clouds pottery for my brother and friend robin, sunshine creations for candles and metal outdoor decorations, and that little one on the corner of sutter and riley, katrina's, for antique laces and little decorative items. oh, yeah, the olive oil at the wine gallery is awesome. its $30 a bottle and imported from liguria, italy. pricey, but that is what makes it a special gift for a foodie (dang it, why does christmas shopping always end in me getting one for myself!!??)
