One of my all-time favorite groups, Tower of Power makes their annual appearance at the San Mateo County Fair tonight and tomorrow. I'll be going tomorrow. Anyone else?

I grew up in San Mateo County and remember seeing them at the Circle Star Theater with Cheech and Chong, obviously back in the day.

When I worked at Folsom Prison, their former lead singer drove the staff taxi from the entrance gate to the west gate.

I saw them perform at the Fresno County Fair a few years ago with the Average White Band, another old fave of mine. I was looking forward to their old songs, especially my favorite, You're Still a Young Man (OK, I like to dream). I was disappointed when they left the old songs in the bag and played songs from a recently released LP. They were not particularly bad but I was just looking forward to the old stuff. I would assume that they may do the same in SM Co.

They have a new CD of soul classics. It has a couple of gems, but most of it is nothing to rave about.

I'll take 'em no matter what though. Always a great show IMO.

Is anyone else a Huey Lewis fan? I always loved that guy's music, and Tower of Power do horns on "Perfect World" and "Doing it All For My Baby". Those are sort of sleeper hits from 1987/88 towards the end of when he was popular (I wish more people still knew them, lol).

Huey is pretty much synthy rock, but esp on those two songs with them, he had that R&B flavor to distinguish his music from alot of other 80s stuff.
