Once it's in place, how long until kids start dropping rocks on cars passing underneath? Seems like it's bound to happen.

Guess I won't be driving down East Bidwell, in that area, anymore.

I don't think so. It's easy to see through it and its a slow traffic section of the road. they would be very visible, would be caught quickly and get in big BIG trouble.

however, I bet banners go up pretty fast, especially near election day. birthdays. etc.

Can a dog pee off of it?

Animals get away with anything if it is natural biological behavior.

wast't this thing one of those "shovel ready" jobs Obama was talking about...? Just another "wasteful" piece of spending that didn't need to happen...

We couldn't afford to build it because the bids came in too high... now...?

Geez...

I think a lot of kids will use the bridge to get to school. A bridge that allows them to be seen from the street is safer than a tunnel and will discourage bad behavior.

So are you terrified driving under all the other pedestrian bridges in the area?

Well, I wasn't before.

But I am going to be extra cautious walking or driving under one of them on rainy days-from now on!

This is the thought process that leads us to have parks with no restrooms (instead we get port-o-potties). Someone might misuse or vandalize something, so let's make sure we don't let them, no matter what the consequences to the rest of the population. Kids sometimes vandalize restrooms, so let's eliminate them rather than finding a way to prevent the vandalism. Motorists might drive on a bike trail, so we'll put steel poles at every entrance that are a hazard for every user every day. Kids might throw things off of a bridge, so let's not build the bridge, even though it will provide a safety benefit for hundreds of users every day. last time I checked, a lot more kids were killed by cars every year (the leading cause of death for all children) than motorists killed by rocks thrown off of bridges (but when it happens, you can bet you'll hear about it on the news).

For the record, the folks at the city are way ahead of y'all. The bridge will have an 8' chain link fence over the road (caging in those troublemakers).

This project also preceded the stimulus package by a couple of years. It was let in two contracts, the first one about three years ago; the second one was delayed by additional environmental studies on the wetland area. And this project has been in the planning stages since the original Humbug-Willow Creek Parkway Master Plan, which was completed in the early 1990s. When the trucks delivering the last segments of the project are rolling is hardly the time to decide to fight the project, which was paid for from grants and dedicated developer fees.

There were some workers at the bridge today... wonder if they're in the process of putting it up!

They're delivering the rest of the pieces Wed evening. The portion over the road is going up on the 20th, although they may be erecting one of the approach spans today.
