Has anyone been watching Pillars of the Earth on the Starz channel? It is outstanding! It is an adaptation of the book by Ken Follett and is directed by Ridley Scott. They have spent some $$$ on the series with both the actors and sets. It is the same caliber as their Spartacus series just not as gory.

If you missed the first episodes you can find them in the Free On Demand for AT&T U-Verse.

I highly recommend it!

We have not watched it but after you posted this on here, I went to Comcast ONDEMAND and watched the Making of Pillars of the Earth and my wife and I thought it might be worth watching so we will watch the first 3 hours on, ONDEMAND and then continue to watch it.

Cal, Thanks so much! I didn't realize it was free even if you don't have Starz and now I can watch it!

In addition to Pillars of the Earth an original series starts on AMC tonight at 10PM (and repeats often). Lest y'all think I spend all of my time in front of the TV, I do searches for new and sometimes offbeat stuff. Rubicon has been called the "thinking man's 24." Sounds like an oxymoron to me, but I guess it means Jack won't be saving the world on a weekly basis and fewer explosions.

Here's some info on the series:

AMC's NEWEST ORIGINAL SERIES: RUBICON

AMC production on Rubicon, its newest original drama series, began on Monday, March 29 in New York City. The show is a conspiracy thriller starring James Badge Dale (who earlier this year headlined HBO’s The Pacific) as an analyst at a New York City-based federal intelligence agency who is thrown into a story where nothing is as it appears to be. Henry Bromell (Homicide, Chicago Hope, Brotherhood) has signed on as showrunner. The one-hour, 13-episode weekly series is produced by Warner Horizon Television and premieres this summer. (Click here to watch a sneak preview of Rubicon.)

"Rubicon is an incredible story about trust and power born out of the desire to find a way to capture the intensity and mystery of the best conspiracy thrillers in a series. It is a show that appeals to everyone who has some skepticism about the relationship between big business and our government, which we think is pretty much everybody,” said Joel Stillerman, SVP of original programming, production and digital content for AMC. “Our stellar cast and creative team allow us to continue to present premium television on basic cable."

The series cast includes James Badge Dale (The Pacific, The Departed), Oscar®-nominated actress Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow), Dallas Roberts (Walk the Line, Flicka, The L Word), Jessica Collins (The Nine, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation), Christopher Evan Welch (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Lauren Hodges (Law & Order), and Arliss Howard (Full Metal Jacket, Natural Born Killers, The Sandlot)

I read the books too and I'm amazed that the actors they cast are exactly as I imagined them! So far, they have stayed true to the book.

I am hoping that there is another way to view this series later. I don't have Comcast, UVerse or STARZ.

Last year I read the book and it was one of the best books I have read in a long time. It would be great to see it acted!

After watching the Tudors, I think this is a bit more entertaining.

That said, it would be cool if they did an expansion of the Tudors to show the reign of "Bloody" Mary.

I think the show that is replacing the Tudors, The Borgias. It's about a pope Alexander VI , who may have or not bought his way into being a pope, and his life with his kids. These people were chaotic and there were definitely murders and rumors of incest at that time. it takes place during the peak of the Renaissance in Italy.
