Some Gas Station Hold Open Latches Dangerous

Surprisingly, gas stations have three weeks to fix these dangerous latches

Does this mean we'll all have to hold the trigger now the entire time we fill up?

A friend had a gas pump not stop on him a few weeks ago while he was checking his engine. It kept pumping fuel into his full tank. He didn't even see it happening as gas was going everywhere. Finally the gas station attendant rushed over and turned it off. His car was sitting in a lake of fuel. Kind of a different situation than the news article but still caused by the nozzle latch holding the pump on.

I heard there was a new state law that will require these latches be taken off. Some stations have already done it and motorists are just using quarters or gas caps to keep them going, which is making the situation worse. Nanny state at work for you...

With the way people give limp-wristed handshakes these days maybe a "workout" holding the gas pump handle for <5 minutes is in order :)

These laws and actions are dumb. Never seen it happen and wonder if it is a particular type of person or behavior that is the real cause i.e. teenager, disabled, elderly or inattentive multi-tasker for which can be addressed.

When I first heard of the law I immediately thought of making a small plastic or aluminum clip which illustrates that no matter how much thought goes into these nanny laws, there are ways around it.

The Chevron on Prairie City Rd at Iron Point already has the latches removed. What a PITA to have to sit there and hold the pump to fill the car - especially with how slow some of those pumps operate.

THIS. Guess I'm never going to the gas station across from city hall. Slowest pumps I've ever used.

the longer time to pump the gas helps give the illusion you're getting more for your money :P

Probably the opposite... the more you sit and stare at the numbers rolling up, the more you feel like you're getting ripped off. Doesn't hurt so much when you ignore it until it says $40

Another in a long line of stupid nanny laws... Good grief.

All the times I've ever been sprayed with gasoline, it's from trying to use these damned vapor nozzles on a motorcycle.

EXACTLTY! They removed the latches a few weeks ago - and the pumps there lately have been SO SLOW! Going to have to quit going there!
