I'm just wondering if anyone has reassessed their property for the declining markets for tax purposes. I get kind of lost looking for the information on the county website so I was wondering if anyone has a simple, yes I've done it and this is all I had to do and this is what I got from it.

Thanks!

Yes. I did a successful appeal 2 years ago. There is a simple form available on line (or it was). The next year the assessor lowered the values on his own. This year it looks like I may appeal again. I paid and did it after the fact and then got a refund.

Yes, I have done it but in other counties. It was very simple.

Last summer, I got a notice from Sac County that they were lowering on their own for this house.

That happened to me over a decade ago, I applied, and was denied, then the next year the assessor lowered them on their own.
I would rather be Backpacking

ok cool. so is this something the county sometimes does on their own? Or should I go ahead and file the papers for a reassessment? I'll call the assessor in the morning and see if I actually get through.

If you can't get through, just go here for all the info, instructions, forms, etc.:

http://www.sccob.saccounty.net/pages/assess.html

You'll see they now charge a $30 fee per application.

Our previous Folsom home was purchased at the peak of the market. Every year after, we received an automatic Prop 8 decline in value tax assessment, which resulted in maybe a $100 off our tax bill each year, and we never had to file a formal appeal. Here's more info on that (assessor can initiate): http://www.assessor....F_Decline_Value

Remember, they are going to look at your home's value as of January 1, 2010 for this next tax bill. January 1, 2011 will apply to your tax bill at the end of next year. Each assessment is good only for the current tax year. You'll likely have to reapply every year thereafter, and if your property value goes back up at all your taxes will increase accordingly.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
