Does anyone have a child that has taken Spanish 1 at vista. If so what were there experiences and who was the teacher. My daughter who is a good student is struggling with the class. She is more frustrated with the teaching style of the teacher then the Spanish itself. So far it seems to be more of a mix of Mexico civilization and less of a language class. We are going to try to find a reasonable way to deal with it, but having a hard time knowing where to start. I will be talking with teacher and counselor asap.

Both of my kids had Spanish 1 and with different teachers. My son had Senor Lusk for three years. Very demanding, but he also learned a lot. I liked the way that he infused the class with culture. They got to listen to Spanish contemporary music, etc.

So often, IMHO, it really is a matter of the learning style of the child and the style of the teacher. Sometimes they mix and sometimes they don't.

We have heard that Mr. Lusk is the hardest, and the best teacher The district has for Spanish. One of her good friends moaned everyday last year about his class, but he always said that he was a great teacher. He sets a high bar and expects the kids to learn. She would and wants to take his class if she could, but there is no other Spanish 1 in second period. If things don't get better she might be taking his Spanish 1 class next semester.
