My daughter is a vegetarian and her birthday is coming up. When we go out to eat, she ends up eating a lot of macaroni and cheese. I'd like to take her somewhere that is doing interesting things with vegetarian food. She's not really a fan of Indian food. Any suggestions? I'm willing to go into Sacramento. Thanks in advance.
I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

Any oriental restaurant should be able to substitute tofu for meat in most any dish they make.

What kind of vegetarian is she? is fish OK or taboo? eggs?

Italian dishes with marinara or alfredo sauces can be meat free.

Vegetarian pizza.

How about a BLT, no B?

Don't be afraid to ask your server for a vegetarian suggestion. They may have a non-menu dish they will serve.
I've dined with a few vegetarians and the restaurants always have something they can offer, sometimes off-menu.

Red Robin has veggie burgers, french onion soup, cantelope wedges, etc.

Ihop has pancakes, you can tell them no bacon or sausage.

Mexican rice, beans, and a cheese quesadilla.

I have two vegetarian friends, so I know the drill. Hop Sings does great vegetarian dishes. Just tell them what you want. Their dry-fried green beans and other dishes are great! they can do moo shu vegetarian too.

next, go to Latitudes in old town Auburn. Lots of nice vegetarian dishes, used to be their speciality. located in an old victorian across the street from the Auburn court house.

here are some menu items from their website:

Spinach Crepes with Chicken or Tofu
Your choice of tofu or chicken with spinach, mushrooms, onion, and cheese rolled in two crepes and covered with a light golden cheese sauce. Served with organic long grain brown rice with wild rice and vegetables With Chicken or Tofu.

Teriyaki Tempeh
Tempeh simmered in a teriyaki sauce, grilled and served topped with shiitake mushroom and sesame seeds over organic brown & wild rices with a side of steamed vegetables.

Tofu Florentine
Tofu grilled with cashews, spinach, green onions, soy sauce, and sherry and topped with cheese and sesame seeds. Served with vegetables and your choice of organic brown rice with wild rice or fettuccini.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

Oh, Andy Nguyen's is 100% veggie. Michael Bauer of Sac Bee just reviewed and gave it rave reviews. Not the best location (Broadway by Tower Cafe) and kinda "divey" looking, but A++++ food. Thought I think they may have opened a 2nd location?? Regardless, I've wanted to try since I read his review. :P

No, Ngyuen's used to have two locations but I believe there was a divorce or something so they split. It was at this time that the one on Broadway went 100% vegetarian and cleaned up - it used to be much more dirty!
