It's a first for our city. Women still are working on breaking the glass ceiling in lots of places. Someday we will have our first female president, I hope it isn't Hillary or Sarah Palin. Yes, her qualifications are more important than just the fact she is a female, but that is no reason not to celebrate the fact she is the first female Chief of Police for our city.Yawn. So what that the new chief is a woman? Methinks she probably has other qualifications that should be noted. The fact that she's a woman is just a sidebar.
From what I read, sounds like she has the experience to be qualified for the job, so now that we know she is qualified, no reason not to celebrate her accomplishment.

Her experience should be the important thing here because she should be judged just like a man. Notable that she's the first female, but that shouldn't be the sole focus, nor should it be the main focus. It's a first for our city. As to the fact we have a female police cheif for the first time in city history, I think it's
great! It shows that civil rights and equality aren't just lip service here, it's fact. It
looks the best and most well qualified candate won and the fact this she is female is a sure
sign of progress in a world where (please take no offense as its not meant that way) women are
underdogs. I've read stories about the hazzing and s--- that women have to go through in
traditional male dominated professions, this speaks volumes about her character! I say bravo
and welcome.
Once again, I wish her the best of luck catching me. For a bit of starter help, I sometimes
go by the alias of "tator salad"

That school looks grueling.
I wish her the best in her new position. I am proud that our fair city did not dismiss her on the grounds of being a woman, considering her other qualifications appear so promising.
I hope the transition to new leadership and insight goes smoothly for the department.
Congratulations to Chief Cynthia Renaud.

I'm hoping she IS the best person for the job based on qualifications, not gender. Who knows with some of the stunts our esteemed city manager and his cronies pull.
The more things change, the more they stay the same!
I've been meaning to ask you if you feel like its better under the current regime, than the former?

Her qualifications are noted. "Renaud is a 19 year veteran and currently oversees 104 detectives a and a $15m budget...." The fact that she is the city's first female police chief is newsworthy. There's nothing wrong with that being the headline.
