Hey everyone, I wanted to share my success story with everyone. I travel extensively, and didn't know how to stay in shape or how to eat healthy. Over the last 90 days I've found the answer.

Power 90 (days) Extreme

This DVD set featuring a 46 year old Tony Horton does everything it promises and more. 12 heart pumping, muscle building exercises continue to keep mind and body guessing as to what's coming next. I have recently completed my first P90X round and needless to say I'm in the best shape of my life. I highly, highly, highly (get the point?) recommend you follow the nutrition guide throughout the next 90 days, it will keep your body fueled with the right amount of good stuff to allow your body to recover. Believe it or not, P90X has you eating more calories instead of less like all the other quick fix programs have you doing. The nutrition guide has 3 levels based upon a simple calculation they provide. To give you an example, I started at 210 pounds and they recommended I eat 3,000 calories a day. What you talkin' 'bout Willis! I was shocked but guess what, it worked.

I'm going to break down the time commitment and a brief description of each DVD routine. Each DVD has at least 6 minutes of warm up on the front end and at least 4 minutes of cool down on the back-end. You can definitely hit pause and do more if you need to. Long read, bear with me.

P90X has three tracks of workouts; lean, classic, and doubles. To make a long story short, lean basically replaces Plyometrics with Cardio X, and doubles has you doing Cardio X in the morning and classic in the evening.

CLASSIC TRACK
Weeks 1-3 - Fat Shredder
P90X Legs and Back (53 min)

This was my day one introduction to P90X and I must say that my shower afterward didn't include much hair washing... I couldn't get my arms above my waist, let's say they were a bit "floppy". Got me a little nervous, I've been in shape before (a really long time ago) but come on... really Tony? You do 2 rounds of 12 different exercises but you flip-flop your start exercise (chest/back, back/chest) in the second round. This will probably be more push-ups and pull-ups than you've ever done in a single sitting. My favorite are the Dive Bomber Push-ups. Since I'm usually wasted, I save Ab Ripper X for the evening.

Ab Ripper X (16 min) - Part of every core workout day

Ever had a crunchy frog or climbed your own leg. You will here, to the tune of 349 abdominal exercises. No, you won't be able to keep up for at least the first month if your lucky, but I'll guarantee your not hitting your abs today in this many directions. In and outs, heels to the heaven, oblique v-ups, just to name a few.

P90X Plyometrics (58 min)

Great! Now that I can't move my upper body, let's just go ahead and destroy my legs. For those of you who don't know, Plyometrics is basically jump training. Let's start by jumping from a squat position, let's do some airborne Heismans, some rock hero, and my favorite, Mary Katherine jump lunges. Each of the 4 sets includes 4 exercises that you repeat. The 'bonus' round includes pitching, think baseball, right and left-handed, basketball jumpshots, and finishing off with football hero. I generally burn between 650 - 85o calories per 58 minutes.

Shoulders and Arms (59 min)

Dang, I'm still sore from Day 1 and now I can't walk, Yahoo!!! Shoulder presses and flys, curls of all flavors, rows, chair dips, and crouching Cohen curls all make you want to scream for mommy. Gotta love the side-tri-rises, especially since they're the last workout. This P90X DVD includes 15 exercises. Oh yeah, it's Ab Ripper X time again. I think I'll wait until later.

Yoga X (92 min)

Yeah, 92 minutes but it's totally worth it. To be completely honest, I used to laugh at yoga people. Breathing, Ohhhmmm'ing, sticking my leg up in the air. Can't be too difficult right? Um, wrong. I have all the respect in the world for Yoga now and I feel this workout is the cornerstone of P90X. It takes strength, flexibility, and balance that I thought I had. Chaturunga, downward dog, crescent pose, warrior one, two, 3, and reverse. Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! If you can get to minute 43 on the DVD you've almost made it, kind of. You've now finished the yoga stances and move on to balance postures, a fantastic round of stretching, Yoga-belly 7 (more abs), and finally a true zen moment. Yeah, I ooohhhmmm, go ahead and laugh. I've recently switched in Tony Horton's One-on-One Yoga Fountain of Youth series, it comes in at 45 minutes and is much more doable during the week.

Legs / Back (58 min)

Awesome, let's do back again and throw in an awesome leg routine. Lunge, lunge, lunge, and then some more lunges. All different shapes and sizes. Super skaters, wall squats, and sneaky lunges are my favorite. The DVD takes you through legs, legs, pull-ups 8 times for a total of 24 unique exercises, no repeating on this one. Throw in some Ab Ripper X and you've finished Day 5.

Kenpo X (55 minutes)

Hi-ya! Jab, cross, hook, uppercut. Front kick, side kick, back kick. Upward block, inside block, outside block, downward block. This P90X DVD is one of my favorites as I've never done martial arts before. This is also a pretty high intensity workout, it's definitely not hard to stay in your heart rate zone. You finish with 100+ vertical punches, starting slowly and building up to a great stress reliever. Your breaks consist of running in place, jumping jacks, jumping rope without the rope, and the X jump.

X Stretch (57 min)

Ahhh, I just completed some of best workouts I've ever seen. Let's relax a little, breathe, and stretch. This is my Sunday workout and I love doing it about 9pm just before bedtime. You start at the top (neck) and work your way all the way down to your ankles. Tony Horton doesn't even forget about your wrists, you stretch them too.

Week 4 - "Recovery" Week
Core Synergystics (57 min) | 2 times during the week.

Not quite sure how this is considered a recovery week but I'll go with it. This workout rocks you to your very core, every exercise hits your core muscles hard. Prison push-ups, squat run, low lateral skaters, towel hopping, walking push-ups, and my all time favorite because of its cool name... Superman Bananas. Fantastic way to tighten up everything from head to toe. You won't be disappointed with this one.

Yoga X | 2 times during the week, since 1 time wasn't quite enough.

Kenpo - Take out your week's frustrations.

X Stretch - Relaaaax

Weeks 5-7 - Energy booster (Ahh, I get some carbs back)
This is where the magic happens. You're finally starting to get through the DVDs without hitting pause every 4 minutes, you see some pretty dramatic changes in both body shape and size. Now let's switch everything up on you. Just when you thought it was safe to go home, muscle confusion 101 ladies and gentlemen.

Chest / Shoulders / Triceps (55 min)

Once again, I totally love this routine. Chest, shoulders, tris over and over and over again. You don't repeat on this P90X DVD, you crank through 24 unique exercises. You begin the day with slow motion push-ups, wide, normal, and military style. Talk about switching things up. After that burns you out, let's do some in and out shoulder flys, followed by wasting your triceps doing chair dips. And that only the first 3 exercises. Tony Horton shows you some real unique motions like shoulder 'scarecrows', pike presses, and pour flys. To make things exciting, let's finish up with clapping push-ups and one armers. Trust me, I did the 'modified' version of some of these for a very long time. Whew, done... except for Ab Ripper X!

Plyometrics

Back and Biceps (51 minutes)

If chest/shoulders/tris wasn't enough, lets blast our glamour muscles. Go ahead and send out a save the date to your mirror for the upcoming 'gun show' to make sure it's available. Once again, you do plenty of pull-ups, my favorite of which are the corn cobs. Pull up, shift left, shift right, in, out, in, down. Serious? Yeah, it's a fun one. A plethora of angles are shed upon your pistols as then grow into guns. One arm concentration curls, open arm curls, static arm curls, hammer curls (and in/out hammer curls). I think I forgot to mention, you start off the P90X DVD with twenty-ones... enough said. By the way... all of these exercises can be done with weight bands, no dumbbells required.

Yoga X

Legs / Shoulders

Kenpo... Hi-ya!

X Stretch

Week 8 - Another wonderful Recovery Week!
Week 9 - 12 - Endurance Maximizer (Eating normal and healthy)
I'm sore, but it's a good sore. I can do most all the workouts without modifying them. Maybe not as many reps as I'd like but it's progress. Now enters muscle confusion 201, not only do you revisit the exercises from the first two months, you also switch them up every week.

Week 9 - Month 1 routines

Week 10 - Month 2 routines

Week 11 - Month 1 routines

Week 12 - Month 2 routines

Week 13!!! - Recovery Week... DAY 90 is almost here!!!
Congratulations, you did it, and are most likely in the best shape of your life. You've seen dramatic changes in both body and mind, and are truly loving life. Good job, now go have a big juicy burger and some fries, but only for one day. I'm now on Day 107 and so should you.

P90X Plyometrics should come with a warning label for those of us over 40!

It's a good set of workouts and good for you to stick with them. I did a year ago and still do 2 to 3 of the workouts a week, mixed in with some cycling and running.

Old Doc Horton gets a little annoying after a few workouts. Cheeseburger Bad!!! Yep, I get it. I have to do them with the sound down.

Good for you man and good luck with helping others. I always thought they would make a good group workout.

Doc Horton, I like that. You have to admit some of his one liners are great. Tip of the day, "Don't smash your face"! One of my all-time favorites.

That's the cool thing about the workout, you can switch things up. I travel quite a bit, and it works great in the hotel room and/or gym.

Good luck to you sir, Tony is now over 50 and still going strong!

Have a good one!

I also have a blog at My link if you want to stay in touch!

Hi Allstar, that's the beauty of the DVD set. You have the main guy, Tony Horton, and then 3 other people behind him showing you how to modify the workout. One does the same full routine he does, the other shows you how to do the modified version (Pam "The Blam") is awesome, and the last person shows you how to use bands.

That setup is on each and every video.

The user name is above "allstar" or "newbie" for you. ;)

I just joined CFF & I find that I rarely use "home" videos, equipment, but your program sounds interesting, and may be a future possibility.

Looks like a beginner video to me. The vid is barely 2 min and he rests 3-4 times during that time.

My Success Story - Folsom, CA

It all started with the infamous family holiday picture. I had been ignoring myself in the mirror for months and when I looked closely at a picture of our family, I just about threw up... twice. Next came that little square thing that sits on your bathroom floor collecting who knows what. I slowly and gently stepped on and I'm honestly not sure if the scale knew what to do. If it could talk, I'm sure it would sound a heck of a lot like Chris Rock on a comedic rampage. Ouch, 210 pounds, the most I've ever weighed (only 6' tall).

I had lots and lots of easy excuses... I am a 37 year old married man with two young children. I'm a project manager that travels all over the world implementing software. I don't have time to go to the gym. I have to eat out all the time on the road, and I didn't know where to start. Sound familiar?

Then I heard about P90X.

On Sunday, January 17, 2011, my life changed. My wife got out the camera and took picture after picture as I posed in all sorts of uncomfortable positions (like standing). You start to realize that you're glad you don't have eyes in the back of your head to see that reflection of your large buttocks in the mirror. What happened to me?

The very next day I think it's safe to say I cussed more than I ever have in a single hour in my entire life. Couldn't do a single push-up or pull-up. I kept telling myself I was doing the 'modified' version they show you on the discs. Very, very motivating!!! I kept popping those discs in each and every day for the entire 90 days. Proud to say I haven't missed a single workout, no matter what time my plane flight was or where I was traveling. Changed my diet and followed the general portion guidelines they give you. Wow, what a difference in energy levels when you eat the right stuff. We've changed our family meals as well so the kids get some indirect benefit, too!

Needless to say, I'm in the best shape of my life. My 4 year old does 'Yoda' poses. My daughter jumps around with me during Plyo. My wife has been doing Ab Ripper X and Yoga. We also recently purchased the One on One Fountain of Youth Yoga disc to change things up a bit, man I love that workout!

Instead of quitting on day 90, I've picked up midway to finish with my brother-in-law, and his results are definitely on the way to amazing. Not a day goes by where we don't push each other in a BIL sort of way (a.k.a. Smack Talk). After that, we'll move on to our next Beachbody challenge.

I'm pretty confident you, too, are scared to step on that scale for the first time since prom. It's a life-changer people, and one of the most difficult physical challenges I've been through. This isn't a miracle pill, a diet, or an empty promise. It's good, old-fashioned hard work with a sustainable nutrition plan. "Diets' by definition have an end, P90X doesn't.

I have a challenge for you!

Think real hard about the last time you completed actual physical activity (cube sitting, hair brushing, lawn mowing don't count).

How did you feel?

If you don't remember or simply wish to forget, realize that each and every day is just another Day Zero, nothing will ever change. Don't stay on Day Zero for the rest of your life, take control of your health, and let's get started on Day One tomorrow.

Don't let Day One keep slipping away!

"In Progress" Results (I'm not quitting anytime soon)!

Weight: 210 -> 176 lbs

Waist: 37.5 -> 31.5"

Body Fat: 23.5 -> 10%

Resting HR: 66 -> 50bpm

Blood Pressure: 135/85 -> 110/70

Everybody always asks me how many calories I burn. I averaged between 500 - 750 depending on the workout. 500+ for the core workouts, all the way up to 750 during Plyometrics. And, that's just between play and stop on the workout. Your sky-high metabolism continues to crank away many hours after you've stopped working out.

My Results - I traveled roughly 30% of my 90 days

I was actually referring to the positioning. Sitting on the back edge of the tailbone with all extremities elevated, balanced & moving is difficult and takes excellent core strength. Doing so, is not beginner work. Maybe intermediate.

I've been doing reformer Pilates for 4 years & I still find it difficult. Of course, I've got other limiting injuries.

Thanks Mike, i'll check it out.

I'm going to ask my PT if he thinks I can do it also. I don't want to add to my existing limitations.

Hi BobbiMcGee, that was my original weight loss goal. I started at 210 lbs and hit 190 by the end of 60 days. So.. I kept going. By 90 days I'd lost 35 lbs and am still going. Not losing anymore weight because I don't need to ;) (controlling through proper nutrition), but I highly recommend to anyone who wants to get into the best shape of there life. Check out http://www.travelingworkout.com for my success story including day zero and 45 day pics of my brother in law! You have to enjoy working out hard, and that is what intrigued me about P90x. Time is a wasting!

Good evening from Orlando!

A little backstory, please bear with me. I left Sacramento, CA last night at 7:18 pm expecting a nice smooth ride to Orlando, FL. I was meeting with one of my clients, Walt Disney Imagineering, this morning in a construction trailer at the Walt Disney World Art of Animation expansion project. Although my plane landed at 4:52am EDT, the child crying behind me kept me from getting some much needed shut-eye. No hard feelings, I have children of my own and have been there many times, except I was on the giving end, not the receiving.

Needless to say, by the time I boarded the bus to the Saratoga Springs resort, I'd been up since 6am PDT on Mother's day (shout out to my wife of 13 years, hope you liked your breakfast!). After taking the 30 minute bus ride to the resort, I found myself exhausted and pretty much running on adrenaline. By 6am ET, I began asking myself, are you really going to be able to pull off a P90X workout later tonight? Let's unpack, and see how I feel. I think the pure giddyness/hallucination got the best of me. By the time 6:30 (3:30PT) rolled around, I'd popped in the P90X - Yoga X disc and began the 92 minute journey to feeling a whole lot better. A quick dip in the pool, followed by a short shopping spree at the resort market, left me feeling refreshed and ready to go. I must admit, I did take about an hour and a half nap but am still going strong at 12am ET. I would like to thank Mr. Tony Horton for getting my blood pumping this morning and my lungs full of oxygen because without a nice dose of Yoga, I'd probably have been a gonner about 7 hours ago.

My home away from home... no, it's not a scam, this is reality blogging... live and on location baby :-)

Posted Image

Also didn't forget to pack some P90X recovery drink and picked up a few healthy items from the resort store. The breakfast they were serving was lets say... 'not so healthy'. Buttered eggs, deep fried hash brown potatoes, and biscuits and gravy. Yum!

Posted Image

To make a long story short, I could have gone to bed, forgot the workout for the day, went to my meetings, and been beaten to oblivion by about 4pm. I decided against that and am proud to say I kept my hitting streak going at P115X! Don't let something else get in the way of being in the best shape you can be. Bring It!
