Our two young boys 6 and 10 are needing dental work and their plan has a few local options. Can anyone speak for these practices ?

If you are able to go to Dr. Cindy Weideman (she is in Citrus Heights) I would totally go there. My boys have been going there since they were toddlers and they are an amazing pediatric dentistry office. Far and away the best in Sac (I think they usually win that award every year!). They accept many insurance plans so if yours is one of them, definitely give them a try! http://www.sacchildrensdentist.com/

I highly suggest doing a search for "smile care" here: http://www.tomatopag...&fromMainBar=1. Here is but one review I found:

"went through Smilecare when it was my only option with a previous insurance carrier. I would pay 100% out of pocket if Smilecare was ever again my only choice to get dental work paid through my insurance. I have never dealt with a more sleazy business of any kind. Two and three hour waits for a scheduled appointments were common, billing errors that took months and months to fix, and only after false promises and finally getting very confrontational with them to get it resolved, cheesy sales tactics to upsell on services.... There are many, many posts on this forum that detail similar experiences.:

It appears as though all of your options listed are with Smile Care, except for Western Dental.

Did a search for Western Dental and appears to be in the same category:

"Any of the Smilecare, Western Dental or Access Dental practices are horrible. They use the cheapest product available and you end up waiting for hours. Their first suggestion for a tooth with a real problem is to pull it. Any dentist that cares and knows better would never suggest a tooth be pulled if there is a chance to save it. You always want save as much bone structure as you can. I almost ended up having Western Dental pull a tooth because I trusted them. I finally got “real” insurance and went to what I call a “real” dentist. Tooth is fine and still in place due to great treatment!"

For your kids' sake, your best bet may be choosing one of the highly recommended dentists in these threads and paying out of pocket. I pay out of pocket for my dental visits and receive a discount for paying cash (check) rather than credit card.

Yea, I would avoid SmileCare and Western Dental if you can - not exactly known for the best...

Most dental insurance is handled out of network anyway, will you have to pay 100% if you're out of network or will you still be covered for reasonable expenses? I've used the same dentist (Dr Judd) for 16 years and my 7 year old also goes to him and while my insurance 16 years ago listed him as in-network, over the years I've had different insurance companies and he's been both in and out of network but I've always received reasonable coverage...

I agree with SunnyCA. Weideman is the best! All the people are wonderful and the facility is great. My kids love it. Our insurance doesn't cover all of it, but they are worth every penny!

This thread led me to Dr. Weideman's practice, and my daughters have begun to see Dr. Jamie Prado there. I am so impressed with every aspect of the practice -- from the front staff to the dental assistants, Dr. Jamie and the back office group. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. In fact, I'm thinking of begging them to take ME on as a patient. They have awesome prizes in the treasure boxes! Thank you sunnyCA for the suggestion!

I would stay away from Smile Care ! I'll never go there again !

Now Western Dental in Folsom was very Positive for me !

Professional Staff and Dentist !

Less than a 30 minutes for a wait time !

Low monthly payments if you dont have all the money !

Open on Saturdays and very professional work !

I will continue to go to Western Dental for future dental work !

A +++ in my books !
