I've been working out for years & used to be a competitive athlete but over the years, I got busy & lazy, and now I've been just too stressed to apply any of my knowledge to my personal life.

So, I started working with a personal trainer, and I've got to say, this has been an awesome ride so far. I've totally turned my diet around, previously was eating junk food about 40% of the time, and now I'm down to 3% of the time. Plus, I've lost 8 lbs in just 2 weeks!!! And I'm already seeing gains in my strength & endurance. :cheer:

My trainer offers a significant discount to myfolsom members (he's a member too). It's way less than what you would pay at any gym (i.e, Cal Fit fees are $590 for 10 sessions, ~$60/session). But, he's worth a lot more.

And at Cal Fit, you have 1 hour with your trainer. I have in addition to my 1 hour work out, + extra time as needed to discuss our plan, and easy access as needed via text, email or phone. He is totally there for me.

I love having him guide me along the way, push me to my fullest capacity (& he knows when I need a rest), and relearning good habits for a healthy lifestyle.

If you are interested, here's his contact info. You won't be sorry, he guarantees his results. :2thumbsup:

Hey! I think I ended up with those 8 pounds! Well, I am excited to hear you are doing so well and I probably need the extra padding to keep me warm while we freeze working on the house. ;)

Congrats!

Whoa! Good for you!! I worked out w/a trainer once and he said the secret it to increase cardio and decrease caloric intake. . .So you think it a lot of it was getting rid of the junk food? Congrats, perfect time to lose, the holidays/parties are quickly approaching. ..

I too would like to know if this is the case. I have an idea of the answer ;-) but lets see what caligirlz has to say. I'm all ears ...

Actually, I think getting rid of the junk food is the beginning to the road of success. One has to be willing to practice some foundational behaviors, such tracking of food intake to even get a grip on how much junk (non nutritional) food is in the diet. I've been doing that on livestrong.com since Jan. Just 2 months ago, I reluctantly started looking at my daily non nutritional calories. It was painful. And it wasn't until I started working with my trainer that I was able to take the action to start removing them from my diet.

I can't really describe the overall program yet, as I'm learning the process as we go. But it is so much more than decreasing calories & increasing cardio. Way more. It seems that each trainer develops their own program based on experience & research. There does not seem to be a "perfect one-size-fits-all" solution. I like it that the plan is tweaked on a daily basis as needed.

I was working with a medically monitored diet program that really stressed lots of fruits & vegetables but low carbs. Well, I always was starving by the afternoon/evening and would blow it on poor quality carbs because my body actually needs a certain amount of carbs to burn for energy. That popular diet concept doesn't work for me.

Right now, I'm actually eating 1700-1900 calories a day, and I've STILL lost 8 lbs. It's all about when to eat, what to eat, what to eat when...those kinds of things. Plus the exercise program.

I'm in this for the long term & do not expect to be done by the holidays. We've got a plan for handling all that temptation. I actually can not completely believe the end goal weight, but I'm willing to go for the ride & just follow my daily plan. I'm sure eventually I will start believing this will be reality, and I will be able to fully embrace the goal. I'm halfway there, cuz I'm absolutely loving what I'm seeing & feeling right now!

Thanks all for the encouragement. I will most definately be posting about my progress.

In addition, my trainer's program is a method of quality, timing, management, and of course consistency.

It's really quite amazing. I am not doing a ton of cardio, I am not overly training with resistance, my sessions are never longer than 1 hour, and I am full to the point eating is a chore.

Really. It's blowing me away. And as I said, I'm LOVING it!

He's willing to negotiate costs. It doesn't hurt to ask & you might even be pleasantly surprised by the answer.

Well, I'm in my 2nd month, and while I haven't lost any additional weight yet (total of 10 lbs lost), I've made significant gains in my strength, flexibility & endurance. I can now breeze through a work out (although I shouldn't say this too loudly cuz if "someone" reads this, my work outs will be bumped up to the next level :P ), but still feel sore almost immediately afterwards. I'm no longer in the exhausted all the time stage. That's a total yay!

As for my diet, I'm currently on a *fun* food plan of carb rotation...alternating days of carbs & no carbs, as my body seems to adjust very quickly to a constant program...this applies to both food plans and exercise. We just tweaked my diet further tonight, oh boy, but I hope that I will have some good news to report on actual pounds lost soon....I am leaning up, as noted by others. So it's all good.

One thing I will say that this program has really helped me with is environmental control & focus especially during the holidays. I know that if I eat off plan it will only hurt me, and it will take an additional day to recover falling back into the ditch, both emotionally & physiologically. And I will have a harder work out. It's been truly amazing how I've been able to resist the food avalanche of cookies, candy...all those *wonderful* holiday treats. Funny how many people will support you through a "diet" but if it involves turning down their holiday treats, boy do they get mad. Oh well, taking care of me is more important than people pleasing.

And best of all, I'm still loving the actual work out & my personal trainer's guidance & support. It's awesome! :cheer:

So.....I'm nearing the end of month 3, and I'm still feeling great. As a matter of fact, I am loving this personal training even more!

I was able to maintain my weight loss through the holidays, and now I've changed gears. I was actually getting a little bored with so much emphasis on diet. Because my work outs weren't like a training work out (for an event), there was a much greater focus on the diet to manipulate the body to lose weight. Don't get me wrong, the work outs were hard, and many a night I felt like a messy blob on the floor when we were done, but it still wasn't as hard as if I was "training" for something. It was great that I had those 3 months to acclimate to the foundational diet program and it can now be tweaked further, and... I can easily adapt to the changes. And I still get my weekly cheat meal...my most favorite being a big juicy burger!!

I decided that I wanted to train to walk in a half marathon, the American River Pkwy 1/2 Marathon in April along with a bunch of co-workers. We are all training differently - 1 with the American Heart Assoc, several with SacFit, and of course me with my trainer.

So I'm transitioning from a fitness to a performance plan. This week I went down to his gym in Sacramento, and it was absolutely wonderful. I forgot (due to injury & 2 back surgeries) how much I love working out at a heavy duty gym*, and just working out hard in general. Last night I was there for 1.5 hours, and loved every minute of it. I spent the 1st 35 minutes of so doing weights, then I walked 3 miles on the treadmill at a progressively difficult incline & speed. The walking took almost an hour. But....I could do everything my trainer told me to do. He did have to assist me a couple of times, and I was actually even able to lift wayyyy more than I expected. At one point, I thought I was lifting 50 lbs (lat pull down) when in reality, I found out later, it was 120 lbs!!

I floated out of the gym, and back home, and I did not come back to earth until about 3 pm this afternoon. I was actually awake (& alert) when the alarm went off at 530. That's a big wow. And I didn't even need any coffee (of course, I still took it to work with me & drank it later). When I went to Pilates reformer tonight down in Gold River, both instructors were blown away by my enthusiasm & willingness to do "anything" including crazy planks during the work out.

I am starting to get a little sore now...but still feel great!! I'm very excited about the coming weeks. :D:

(On a side note regarding the "heavy duty gym*"...it's NOTHING like a corporate gym...there's not a lot of fluff like you see at the other Sac gyms, they have ALOT of Hammer Strength equipment, the people (employees & gym rats) are extremely friendly, and it's dirt cheap)

I had my personal best lift tonight. Yes, I'm still doing personal training.

A total of 315 lbs on the leg sled squat machine (270 lbs of plates + 50lbs of machine).... and it was EASY. :cheer:

BTW, I've now lost a total of 25 lbs. :D:
