If Michaelangelo had painted his infamous murals on a wall in the park, would it have been objectionable?
I like this one by Salvador Dali. Saw the original at MOMA in NY. Thoughts? Comments? Magritte is another favorite of mine.

The graffiti discussion in another thread got me thinking. What constitutes art? I know, old discussion and very subjective, but I thought I'd start a thread for discussing it and sharing of art imagery.
If Michaelangelo had painted his infamous murals on a wall in the park, would it have been objectionable?
I like this one by Salvador Dali. Saw the original at MOMA in NY. Thoughts? Comments? Magritte is another favorite of mine.

Certainly not an abstract or obscure one, but it's still one of my favorites.
I remember being in Europe and going through countless museums, including the Louvre. It was frustrating though, since all I got to see were Madonnas
As valid as those religious paintings might be, if I see another depiction of the crucifixion with a bunch of people with halos over their heads, I'll probably break the nearest wall with my head.
Over in the next hall...French Revolutionary paintings...next to that, contemporary and abstract art...but NO! Off we go to see more Madonnas.
My favorite that I DID get to see was one of the few French Revolution paintings I got to see. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the painting
It's a depiction of the revolutionaries climbing past the ones who'd fallen in battle, and they're holding their flag. Dangit now I need to find a picture of it 
The painting "Rape of the Sabine Women" (picasso) is always an enjoyable one, too. Moreso if you know the history behind it.

But I digress... I can understand those that don't like art not liking any kind of graffiti, and perhaps not liking bad graffiti, but is there no graffiti that would be acceptable? For me it's simply a matter of taste, some of it I like, some of it I don't care for (particularly when there's no talent behind it).

I enjoy some abstract like ....

even Dali
but don't care much for Pollock... go figure. The only one that comes close to my taste in Pollock's work is this one.
You could say that's a bit like graffiti abstracted.

Stencil by Banksy. No one knows who banksy is. Very popular in Europe.

I dind't see a Bansky signature - If noone knows who Bansky is, how do they know it's his/her work?

thats one of banksy's signature stencils. No one can copy it, he has his own style. Why would anyone do a bigger stencil of somthing he already did in hte same city he lives in?

Even the masters are copied... Rembrandt, Picasso, etc. It's a form of flattery....
