Tornado, high winds rip through region

The swirling winds of a thunderstorm reached down into the Sacramento area Monday, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage, throwing a big-rig trailer on its side and hurling wooden signs, sheet metal, roofing and even a portable bathroom through the air.
There were no reports of injuries.

"Mom, there's a tornado!" shouted Janessa Rivers, 14, pointing at the funnel cloud from a window of the Terracina Gold Apartments in Natomas, where at least nine businesses and several residences suffered damage.

"We didn't even have time to get out once we saw it," said Patty Rivers. "We ran into a hallway away from all the windows."

"Sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident, teachers' unions have a long history of working against the interests of children in the name of job security for adults. And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.
