Dr. Sanjay Gupta reports on new research showing that beyond weight gain, sugar can take a serious toll on your health, worsening conditions ranging from heart disease to cancer. Some physicians go so far as to call sugar a toxin.
Dr. Robert Lustig is a pediatric endocrinologist at the University of California, San Francisco and a pioneer in what is becoming a war against sugar. While Dr. Lustig has published a dozen scientific articles on the evils of sugar, it was his lecture on YouTube, called "Sugar: The Bitter Truth," that brought his message to the masses.....

This is a very interesting video, and I concur with the findings. Years ago, in discussion with a crack addict friend (now deceased), we found that the compulsions for the addictive "drug" - sugar vs crack cocaine - were virtually the same. I'm so thrilled that Western medicine finally has the research, that their world revolves around, to verify this....the same conclusions that alternative medicine has had for years.

Without a doubt. Given that, I'm in the camp of "everything in moderation." I won't use fat-free versions of things like cheese or mayo, etc because they're just replacing the fat with chemicals.
I cut all soda out of my diet a couple of years ago but I do bake a lot so I can't say we don't have sugar in our house.
My personal opinion about food is to try to stick to its original form as much as possible. Stay away from packed, processed foods. Eat real food!
The problem with sugar (and salt) is it's hard to tell how much we get. Bread is usually full of both and you wouldn't realize it.

I'm not going to listen to the propaganda. Too much of anything is bad.
But fundamentally, if we had no salt in our bodies, we would die, if we had no sugars in our bodies, we would die. To call a substance that is fundamentally necessary for survival a toxin, is BS. Your cells don't burn asparagus, they burn simple sugars. I'm not saying a diet of pure sugar is healthy, but let's be real about what it is our bodies use out of the food we eat. Eating lots of fresh fruit will load you up on sugars. Ask any diabetic.
