Critter In The Dirt

We found this critter in a bucket of soil from Citrus Heights. We thought it was a jalapeno at first, but then it started wriggling around. Any idea what it is?

Do a Google image search for moth pupae. That's what it looks like to me -- but it's just a guess.

That appears to be it. It's a bit bigger than most of the those in the images, but identical otherwise. Now we just need to figure out what to do with it so it can go about its business. ;)

What do you think of moths? If you want it to live, put it back in the ground under a little bit of dirt. If you like fishies and frogs more, through it in a creek or pond, I'm sure some critter could make a nice meal out of it.
