Note to salespeople, say hi, ask if I can help you with anything and BACK OFF. Don't follow me around, commenting on every shoe I touch. It's so far past annoying. If I have a question, I'll ask you.

My husband and I just stopped at the Outlets to look for tennis shoes for him. In 4 years, he's never been there and I've been once. It was awful. We went into 3 stores and immediately got jumped on by the sales people and they wouldn't stop. We literally had to leave the store it was so bad.

This is a huge pet peeve of mine. Very annoying.

They're probably so happy to see customers and they want some business. Also maybe they work on commission and they're hungry for a sale.
The sad thing is if they would have left us alone, they probably could have gotten one.
AND the outlets were packed, couldn't get a parking place to save our lives.

Same here, I find overly aggressive salespeople to be real annoying, and unless they have a one of kind item I can't find anywhere else, then I'm going shopping somewhere else. The sad thing is if they would have left us alone, they probably could have gotten one.

I usually have the opposite problem. I can't find anyone to help when I need it.

As a former retail employee, I can tell you that there is a fine line between too much attention and not enough.
I usually have the opposite problem. I can't find anyone to help when I need it.
The line isn't really that fine.
"May I help you?"
"No, thank you. I'd like to look around."
Done. End of story. No grey area. Crystal clear. No fine line.

Absolutely.
I love being asked if I need help. It's what happens after that that can ruin a shopping trip.
Pushy salespeople remind me of the days of trying to shop with a toddler along. Having to answer incessant questions about what I'm looking at or looking for or being redirected to look at something else when I've already said I just want to look around is irritating and makes me want to leave even if I really want to buy something.
Of course, there's those other times when you want to ask a question and you find yourself in the store with other customers all muttering, "Does anyone work here?"

The worst are at the Roseville Gallery from the Kiosk sales people! They spray, flat iron your hair and push coupons in your hand while you are walking! I feel like I'm on the Vegas strip! It looks like a mall with a flea market on the side b/c they let so many kiosks in there.
Hahaha!
Same thing at Arden Fair.
"Ma'am, can I ask you a question?"
Pass by again 10 minutes later.

People are looking for deals, or steals if they can find them. Sales people are looking to keep their jobs in the only way they know how....pushing for more sales.
I think this will be the “New Normal”.
