Just wondering if anyone knows what is going on...there has been a police helicopter circling over the golf course in Empire Ranch for at least the last 20-30 minutes. It seems very persistently focused on the golf course, on the side nearest to Green Valley Rd. Anyone have any info?

No announcements that we can hear...just circling. And a FPD car with lights at the end of the street. Anyone know anything? It has now been going on for close to 1 hour.

Used to be if it was prison-related you would recognize the vans slowly cruising the streets.

Hope it turns out to be nothing.

I received this notification from the FPD via Nixle...

On Sunday night shortly after 9 pm the Folsom Police responded to the report of an auto theft in progress in the Esplanade community near East Natoma Street and Blue Ravine Road. The victim reported the theft of his vehicle was thwarted by neighbors, and the suspect had fled on foot into the nearby wetlands.

Officers searched the area on foot, with police K9s, and with assistance from helicopters from CHP, and The Sacramento Sheriff's Department. After nearly two hours, the search was aborted.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult, late 20s to early 30s. He was last seen wearing shorts, no shirt, with visible tattoos on his exposed upper body. If you see anyone matching the description or acting suspiciously, please call 911.

When I first read the Nixle email this morning, I was thinking 'wow! that's a lot of manpower/time/cost for an attempted car theft'. But now knowing that it was probably an escaped prisoner attempting the theft, I'm kinda' wondering why they gave up so soon...and why the FPD didn't mention the prisoner in their alert, that seems like a fairly important detail.

As a side note, it's interesting to me how my perception changed as more of the information was presented. It's just another good reminder for me to keep an open mind and remember there's probably more to every story and that the truth is probably somewhere in between all the different versions.

Here is a later version of the FPD notice confirming it was the escapee---

The Folsom Police Department received an emergency call at 9:19 pm Sunday night reporting someone had just stolen a vehicle in the 100 block of Esplanade Circle in the Folsom neighborhood of Empire Ranch. The victim told dispatchers his neighbors had blocked the stolen vehicle from leaving, and after a slight collision with a water main, the suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot into the nearby wetlands area.

Arriving officers set a perimeter within minutes, and were assisted by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, and the California Highway Patrol. After two hours of combing the area with helicopters (CHP, Sacramento Sheriff) and Folsom Police Department K9s’, the search was called off.

Twenty minutes after the initial report, California State Prison- Sacramento advised they had an escapee from their minimum support facility located approximately three miles from the scene of the vehicle theft. Further investigation by Folsom Police officers confirmed that inmate Marco Cabrera, 32, of Tulare County, was the suspect in the Esplanade theft.

Cabrera is described as a Hispanic male adult, 5’7” tall, approximately 200 pounds. He was last seen Sunday evening with a shaved head, wearing no shirt, and wearing shorts. Cabrera faces auto theft and robbery charges related to the Folsom investigation.

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

The bank was robbed at noon on Friday. Wonder why it took so long to get the word and photo out?
