As an 11 year resident of the Natoma Station neighborhood, I found it very convenient to have the afore mentioned Shell Station at the corner of Folsom Blvd and Blue Ravine offering propane tank exchanges at the very reasonable price of 14.99(although they originally began the program @ 12.99 and have in the last couple of years raised the price twice to it's current level)Anyway, I use my outdoor grill quite often and only exchange them at this location. Yesterday I brought in my 2 empty tanks to exchange and after a rather lengthy wait due to only a single clerk working the front counter, was told in no uncertain terms that one of my tanks was too old to exchange (remember, this is the location that gave this "old" tank" in the first place). This clerk then offered to fill it for me or I could purchase one of his new tanks for 53.00(empty of course). I pleaded my case that I had started out with 2 new tanks and now because of this Shell Station exchanging for me am old unsuitable tank,I now apparently am the proud owner of an old unsafe tank that I should not be using anymore. I would strongly caution anyone exchanging their propane tanks with this unscrupupous local merchant to excercise extreme caution and vigilance when doing business here. I myself, despite the convenient location and competetive price will no longer be doing businees with this Shell station.

What type of valve does your old tank have? If it's not the "3 star" then it's been out of date for years. If you use your grill that often you'd know. I'm surprised they offered to refill it, that style has been out of date for several years now.

They also have a 5 year hydro date stamped on them. Anyways, take it to Walmart and exchange it there. Lawn and garden area.

best thing to do is hold on to your good tank and get it filled. good place is bidwell and blue ravine. I had a bad tank cause of date which was ok with me to reject for safety reasons. I put it out in my neighbors trash pickup and somebody ran off with it...probably will get a surprise when he tries to fill it.

I use Prarie City RV Center on Levy Road (the old United Rentals location) to refill my propane tanks. They have the cheapest prices and they don't have a minimum amount you have to purchase.

I think he is saying when he exchanged the new tank on the prior trip, they gave him an old style tank valve in exchange. Might have been an oversight...might have been sleazy. Competence is in short supply these days.
