Does anyone know if the Tahoe Joe's is closing? I drove by and saw the sign coming down and kegs were being removed and all the vendors were out front. Anyone know whats going on?

That certainly sounds like a place that's closing.

On tahoejoes.com the Folsom location is no longer listed.

I'm sorry to hear this news.

I'm afraid we might be seeing more similiar things like this since Waste Connections moved to Texas. Communities are going to be adversely affected when companies like Waste Connections move. The Dry Cleaners, the Auto mechanic, the Chiropracter, The Dentist, the Florist along with restuarants are just some of the few who see reductions in their services when companies like the size of Waste Connections, move out of state. Then these other businesses have to cut back on their spending, like going out to restuarants and updating their business equipment, such as printers and computers.

Its a viscious cycle that won't end until a majority of the people figure it out.

I feel for those who have lost their jobs with this closing and for those who will be facing additional hardships related to this place closing.

One of my daughters used to work there, and couple of their friends did until yesterday.

Business started to suffer with the economy, and got worse when Sutter St Steak House and Land Ocean opened, add in the new spots at Palladio.

I was also told that business typically slowed down during the warmer months, and that they still had strong happy hour biz, but not so much for restaurant.

At closing time the other night, the boss called a mandatory meeting and announced they'd be closing that location.

Tough deal. One of my daughter's friend has been there over 5 years.

Well, another one bites the dust. I bet if someone opened a healthy fast food type restaurant with out a ton of salt, it would be successful. Look at Paradise Thai one of my favs, and they are doing well, even in this economy. Why, you ask? Because it's way healthier than the hamburgers, pizza and sandwiches that is 90 percent of Folsomites choices when eating out.

I hate to see a business close down, but this is one that earned it. The food was fair, the service was slow and the prices were higher than reasonable for what you got. At the lower end, Cattlemen's was better and at the higher end there are many better choices. It was a "me too" with a poor showing.

Ate there last week and spent over $50 for two. Nice service but left with the feeling that I can grill steak better than what I had there. We have eaten there about six times since it opened and never was impressed. Location may have been a problem since everything is moving towards the Palladio area. I have the same feeling eating at Buffalo Wild Wings. It has lost something since it opened. I buy a bag of tequila and lime wings at Sam's Club and save a bunch instead of going out and they last for several meals. BJ's is a similar story, often too long a wait for average food.

I agree, but only to certain extent. I found Tahoe Joe's menu to be quite heavy on the salt and fat, but healthy restaurants have a hard time staying in biz, or staying healthy. I remember when Fresh Choice came out. It was a healthy, salad place.

Before long, they added pizza, pasta and sandwich meats because they discovered that a lot of folks want the less healthy stuff when they go out.

I think that some diners are starting to opt for and demand healthier choices, but the proliferation of pizza, burger, and burrito joints is proof of that the masses want that stuff.

Look at Palladiio. Chicago Fire and Freebirds Wraps (burritos) seem to be doing quite well. Relish burger in Eldo Hills is packed when I go by there (I get their veggie burger).

I just think Tahoe Joe's look and feel and menu weren't appreciated enough for people to ignore the bad location (most people only see it when going to or coming from the freeway) and make it a destination joint.

I understand what you are saying in that sometimes things seem to slip a bit at places after they open. It could be that if sales start to slow down, the place has to cut a few corners to pay the bills. We may not see it the first time back, but we do notice it over time.

Its a tough business to be in these days and when some of your regulars move out of state its even tougher!

I liked their menu but preparation quality in recent times was not what it was a few years ago - not bad but nothing too special either.

I will miss the whole Sierra lodge ambiance and its casual atmosphere. Cattlemen's is too utilitarian for my taste, and L&O and Sutter Street Grill are dressier than I want to be for a family dinner. The nearest Black Angus is too far and has too much of a chain vibe.

I eat about 1 steak a year. My family loves pasta joints, though, so I hope those never go away. :-)
