Just saw the gigantic yellow signs plastered on the windows tonight. Just says 'closing' vs 'going out of business.'

Good. I'm glad. This is one Folsom business that needs to go away. They treat their customers like garbage. I have never heard of anyone with a good experience from them. If you want to know how not to run a business this place is the model.

I went in to get a remote shutter release for my camera. I told them what camera I had and before I could say anything more I got lectured on how crappy my camera was and that I shouldn't even bother with the remote and I should buy a new, better camera. I tried to be polite but this guy would not let up. Final straw was when I just outright said do you have the remote or not. He said I do... But I'm not going to sell it to you. You need a better camera.

Supposedly, 128 stores will be closing after the Ritz filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Friday, June 22. It came out of its first bankruptcy less than three years ago.

Not a fan of them either. Really expensive and always try to upsell even when I know exactly what I'm asking for. It's so much easier and cheaper to order online, but I like to try to keep my business local and sometimes I have time constraints.

Well, another Folsom biz owner that doesn't understand the whole customer point of view. Good riddance.:)

In addition to poor service, I think their other problems lie with the fact that everyone's got a camera on their phone, so the casual photographers aren't buying as much as they used to.

I saw an article recently about things we use that kids born today won't, and one of them was a camera. Another, a watch. Land phone lines, too.

I don't think I'll ever not wear a watch. I didn't wear it yesterday and hated having to pull out my phone whenever I need to see what time it was. :) Tempted to lose the landline, but I have DSL and a house alarm.

I thought my experience was maybe a one off thing but after reading this and others...wow. I needed a lens and lens adapter for a high end point and shoot DSLR wanna be and they just psff like i was wasting their time and mine. Amazon had no issue selling it to me Ritz and 2 day free shipping :2thumbsup: When i stepped up to a T3i DSLR, i went anywhere but Ritz.

Any local camera recommendations?

And Steve, you are right. iPhone is a, VM "machine", TV, watch and immediate camera....who needs the old school devices?

Yeah, we have no landline. I've never owned a watch, except for the "ten year watch" I got from work that's sits on my dresser. I think I've looked at it once. Love cameras love.

Great choice of camera! I love my T3i. As long as you do your homework, Amazon will work just fine. They have just about every Canon or Tamron lens out there. Forget Ritz and their bonehead sales reps.

iPhone and other handheld devices are great for quick fix, but nothing beats a true camera when it comes to quality of photos.

Back when I was looking to buy my dslr, I went to Ritz as I wanted to give my local camera shop a chance at my business. They wouldn't even match the Ritz.com price. I ended up getting half the stuff through Amazon and the other half through various online sites. Not even counting the tax difference, I saved around 300.00 on the camera body and 2 lenses.

I love the (heavy) sigma f2.8 70-200...at about half the price of the Canon equivalent. I'm ambivalent about the Tamron f2.8 17-50. It works fine, and the wide angle is nice, but they don't lie when they say the autofocus is noisy.

And Mac, you can pay a onetime setup and still have your alarm without a landline. We got rid of ours about 6 months ago, and I have never once missed it.
