Grilled shark: John Cook, co-owner of Scott's Seafood, is a very busy guy.
He's working with partner Alan Irvine on a third Scott's that's part of a boutique hotel and marina project to be built in the Little Pocket area.
He's also working with Scott Ashley to open at least two more Mandango's sports bars. One is set for Elk Grove, another most likely in Natomas.
Then he's going solo with a new restaurant, called Malabar. The concept is American cooking - rotisserie chicken, stir fry, ribs, pasta and the like - with a full bar.
Groundbreaking is set for April for the first one, near Arco Arena at Del Paso Road and I-5. A second, in Folsom, is under consideration. With all the activity, something had to give.
"I had to quit coaching Little League for the first time in four years," Cook says. "It just wasn't going to happen this year."

"Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know." -- Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld

Does anyone know when Malabar (on Prairie City) opens? The sign just went up this past week. Any experiences with the food at the Arco Arena Malabar?

Careful though....with a name like "Malabar", people might mistake it for middle eastern cooking......

I've been to the Natomas one once. Food was good and service was quick. My only complaint (which is probably a plus for some) was that the restaurant was built around the bar area, and the bar was very loud.

I'm sure I'll give it a try, but taking a look at the menu, it is remarkably similar to Chilis, BJ's, Ruby Tuesdays, Applebee's, ELephant Bar, and just about every other chain restaurant around here. I predict 2 hour waits to get in and marvel at their chicken caesar and quesadillas.

Hahaha, you've made up foods that don't exist. Surely there is nothing called a "quesadilla." If it doesn't come from Sysco, it ain't worth eatin'
