Went to Taqueria El Dorado for lunch today. It's in the old Thai Orchid restaurant behind and to the right of Raley's by Kindercare. The parking isn't the best and the space between the door and the order counter is short, so there's waiting out the door. However, based on today's visit, it's definitely worth a try. The food was really good. We tried the regular pollo asado burrito with black beans, a carnitas taco and a chile verde taco.
The pollo asado had quite a bit of flavor with a bit of char on it and the beans and rice were on par with most other taquerias. Overall a 3.5 out of 5. The carnitas were chopped up small, so there were a lot of crispy bits :2thumbsup: and they were really flavorful without being too salty or greasy. 4 out of 5. The chile verde had the perfect amount of tomatillo that gave it a zip without being too tart, a good balance. 4 out of 5. Their prices are just a bit higher than La Fiesta in Folsom. (For instance 25¢ more for a regular burrito 5¢ more for the regular taco. I tried to attach a PDF of the menu, but it was too big. If you're familiar with Taqueria Carneval in P'ville, it's the same menu items and format with different prices. All in all, if they keep up with the consistency of their food, a problem with some places, they should do very well despite the out of the way location. Give it a shot.

No kidding! It'll be nice to have a place for good mexican food when we're not planning on going down to Folsom.

Had to check it out myself and WOW! Awesome authentic food. Nice looking place, very clean and free chips and salsa bar. Where else can you get a tasty burrito, chips and salsa for $5.35? This is what EDH needed and it WILL LAST.

Comparison to El Rincon on Bidwell?

We've only been to El Rincon a couple of times as we generally go to La Fiesta. I think the only things we had at both El Rincon and El Dorado are the carnitas and the salsas. IIRC, the carnitas at El Rincon were chopped in larger pieces, so not as many crispy bits, and they were not as flavorful. We also preferred the salsas at El Dorado; at El Rincon two of them seemed "fizzy", if that makes sense, and we didn't like the taste of any of them very much. Comparing the different foods we had, we enjoyed the overall flavors of the food more at El Dorado.

Went again and it is awsome. Judging from the lines...its a keeper as word spread fast and they operate like they have in biz for months.

Have you had the pollo asado? It's soooo good.
