FOLSOM, Calif. —
Police closed Folsom Lake Crossing after two people were killed in a car crash there early Saturday.

Investigators said two cars, each crossing the bridge in different directions, collided, killing both drivers about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police said the bridge would be closed until about mid-morning Saturday.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Terrible accident.
The on-air report just said one vehicle was a Honda and one a BMW SUV. It was reported that the Honda driver was the designated driver for the night and was on their way home after dropping people off.

I saw it on channel 3 this morning. Tragic. I think one of
the people was from Folsom, but not sure. He was the designated
driver had just taken someone else home.

Collision on Folsom Lake Crossing Kills Two

This morning at 12:28 am the Folsom Police and Fire Departments' responded to a collision on the Folsom Lake Crossing west of Natoma Street involving two vehicles. When emergency personnel arrived, they found the driver of a Honda Civic deceased and a BMW sport utility fully engulfed in flames. When the flames were extinguished, it was determined the driver hadn't survived.

A preliminary investigation revealed the BMW had been traveling eastbound at an extremely excessive speed when the driver lost control of his vehicle, crossing the double yellow lines into on-coming traffic. The driver of the Honda was traveling westbound when the sport utility struck his vehicle. There were no passengers in either car.

The Folsom Lake Crossing was opened to traffic at 9:00 am.

did you see the photo on nixle? wow. no one survived that. looks like it was on the approach after you turn left on Natoma to go over the bridge, but before you get up to the overlook area. very sad.

So sad. One of my good friends died last month in a head-on as the driver. Luckily his passengers and those in the oncoming car were all injury-free.

I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. The story of the DD who was killed is tragic. He and his friends actually planned out a safe evening and he ends up being hit and killed.

Very sad indeed. My friend was the only one not wearing a seat belt. Selt belts do save lives. Thanks for your kind words.

My daughter went to high school with one of the victims. He was only 19 years old. So far, we don't know which car he was driving. I am so sad for him and his family. That could have been my kid. In fact, my daughter told me that she had to take the old bridge home last night because the cops had the new one closed off.

Kind of confusing story. Did the BMW enter onto Damn Road and reach 100mph before crashing right before the bridge, or.. was the BMW preparing to exit Dam road and crashed before the bridge?

The witness stated 100+mph, Im not sure that is possible on that stretch of road going uphill, and going downhill, it would be suicidal

Im pretty sure a BMW SUV can reach 100mph uphill. Pretty easily.

The point is where they said it happened. I doubt it. If he took a right, or left turn, then started 100meters before going airborne at 100 mph and then crashing?

I think you may have read that wrong. He said he went airborne on impact and then exploded in midair before coming to a flaming rest on the bike trail. here is what the witness said,"The oncoming driver from the bridge did not have their headlights on and was going at least 100 mph around the corner because upon impact the vehicle went airborne and exploded whilst still in the air before landing on the bike trail adjacent to the road and becoming fully engulfed in flames."

My daughter went to high school with one of the victims. He was only 19 years old. So far, we don't know which car he was driving. I am so sad for him and his family. That could have been my kid. In fact, my daughter told me that she had to take the old bridge home last night because the cops had the new one closed off.

Yesterday the news had printed his name in the article but it has since been removed. I think there is some confusion because I heard today it was someone else. Regardless, the whole darn night seemed pretty tragic, my heart is sad for all of those families.
