Chamber members are invited to the expanded Walmart store, which opens Friday, Oct. 26, at 1018 Riley St. The grand opening is scheduled for 7:30 a.m., and the store will open to the public immediately following the ceremony. The expanded store will employ 300 associates, including 85 new jobs created by the expansion. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Ribbon-Cutting Celebration at 7:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 26
Community and business leaders will join Walmart associates at 7:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 26, for a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony. Members of the Sutter and Folsom middle school choir and bands will perform. Store manager Keith Johnson will be joined by community leaders and associates to cut the ribbon to the newly expanded store.
Grand Opening Events
Customers are encouraged to come to the store on grand opening day to take advantage of a wide variety of events and promotions. The events include product samplings and giveaways from various companies. All events are family-friendly, free and open to the public.
"We are proud to be expanding during the year that Walmart celebrates the 50th anniversary of its first store opening," said Johnson. "We look forward to serving the people of our community, helping save them money so they can live better."

Yeah I'll admit I shop there on occasion.
Go ahead, call me names, judge me, classify me as white trash - I accept it from the haters (wait for Asbestoshills to start on her usual tirade of how everyone who shops at Wal-mart and Winco are trash)

ANY COMPANY that isnures people who can get welfare benefits b/c they don't make enough are disgusting. ANY company that pays so low it's long term employees is not a benefit for the community, but a tax gold mine for the city of Folsom. If every time you hire a Walmart employee and they qualify for food stamps and Medi-cal you gotta ask yourself, is this really benefiting the community at large. At least Target gives 5% back to local communities, Walmart does not. A living wage would go a long way into creating a positive impact on Folsom. Have you seen some of the employees, they look miserable. I highly doubt they are happy since their are rumblings of walk outs on Black Friday. This was reported in teh Walstreet Journal. NO one is saying that you shopping at Walmart should be illegal, but when possible and if your budget allows, try a store that pays their people better. Kinda like shopping for food. You can live on pesticide laden processed foods, but wouldn't be great if you didn't have to????

Next time I go there I'm going to ask the employees, that you know everything about, how many are being mistreated and how many are on welfare as you claim so much.
I'm going to also show the manager, who is a nice guy, your posts about his store.

My wife will not go into that store and I have been in there maybe 3 times since arriving in Folsom in 2000.

.... I said Walmart is an example of out of control capitalism that treats their employees like shiz and they don't respect their customers either. THEIR thirst for profit in Folsom is apparent. ...
Why don't you just say "I hate Walmart" and be done with it? Rather than spouting the union sponsored/generated sound bites. You do know that Target is not unionized as well and pays the same as Walmart? To not be a hypocrite, you best stick to union retail stores.

About nine years ago I read a great multipart series in the LA Times about how they drive US manufacturing out of the US and to cheaper places like China. It also talked about how they will often only buy at such low prices that manufacturers make "Walmart" pieces of lower quality in order to make a profit. That explained why the Hanes tshirts I bought there were always twisting and shrinking unevenly. That was enough for me.
You get what you pay for.

These days everything is made in China, including all the items Target sells.
Agree, its hard to shop anywhere and find products NOT made in China. Its not just Walmart. I really think somebody needs to fill this void in our economy and come up with a line of stores that carries US ONLY made products. Yes it would be a little more cosltly but I believe there would be a lot of people willing to pay a little more knowing where there money is ultimatley going. WHy has nobody done this yet on the same kind of level to compete with the big name stores? Walmart would hate it...

Saw this report once where a family wanted to go with USA made stuff only so they removed everything from their house that was made in China. The place was gutted. Then they attempted to use only goods made in the USA. It took them forever to find things like light bulbs, clothes, you name it. And they had to spend about 3-5x for everything. Noble effort but it isn't the way the economy is today.
Walmart is an easy place to bash simply because they are the most successful at taking advantage of our lost manufacturing capabilities at home. All the haters never bring up any suggestions about where else to shop, they just say the "Mom and Pop" shops which don't exist.

I hate Walmart. I end up there about once a year (bought my kids fishing poles there this year because they were the only option in town, at least for beginners).
I know it's too late now, but Big 5 has poles and fishing gear along with a lot of other sporting goods. I've always been able to find what I'm looking for there. Sports Authority and Target are other options.

Fully agree! I think it would be great to have a store that sold nothing but 100% American made products - I'd shop there every day!
Even at the dang Harley shop everything is made in China - we need to bring back manufacturing to America!

Sports Authority didn't carry fishing poles and Target had (I think) only kid's ones. I tried those first. Then I went to Big 5 and they only had one beginner, non-kid's toy that was a spincast. The guy there said they don't get many of those but to try Walmart. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Sorry. When you said beginner I thought you meant kids' ones. I know I got some at Big 5 that are sitting in my garage right now.
