Damn! Looks like our OSH will end up closing. OSH just filed bankruptcy and is being bought by Lowe's.

Dang! Since the one in Folsom is across the street and the one in Cit Heights is just down the road, you have to assume they're both goners.

I am hoping they will stay open and just be reorganized. I LOVE OSH!!! dislike and avoid Lowes and Home Depot as much as possible!! OSH is as close to the old Pioneer Hardware and Folsom Lumber as we have left in this town.

I'm sorry to hear this. I relied on the knowledgeable people at OSH to help fix the things that invariably break in an old house. No matter what broken part I brought in or photo on my phone, they always had helpful advice. They had such a good selection of hard-to-find materials.

If you feel the need for that old time hardware store, just drive 20 mins to Placerville and visit Placerville Hardware on Main Street. What a great old time hardware store. Been there 160 years!

I wish it was practical, but I was at OSH here in Folsom at least once a week and sometimes three times a week. I don't have an extra hour when I need something. thanks though.

The people at OSH have always been very helpful. They are very knowledgeable about things around the home.
I do most of my shopping at Lowes though.

I share your sentiment, but have to chuckle at how OSH has now become the small, old-timey kind of shop being replaced by the big-box stores.
I remember when OSH came to town and killed the Ace Hardware, and did the same to a small one in the San Bruno area. They were reviled as being killers of small businesses.
Now, we'll miss them.

It was home depot that killed Folsom lumber, the old Ace hardware. I remember how sad the Creasys were as they saw their business dwindle. Lowes and OSH came in after. I was gla when OSH came in because it meant you didn't have to go on a hike to get something you needed in a hurry.
It was Home Depot that killed the smaller stores. I don't ever remember complaining about OSH. They came later.
I do shop at Lowe's too and have found some of the employees very helpful, but it's hit and miss. I'd go to both stores for different items. OSH was good for things you couldn't find in the big box stores because they had cleared the shelves to push whatever was seasonal at the time - Christmas decorations, Halloween decorations. OSH had a better seed selection and fertilizer selection (Green Acres has the same now).
If I was looking for metal, nuts, bolts, plumbing parts, drip system parts, tubing, rope, twine, it would be OSH.
OSH didn't have lumber so that would be a Lowe's thing.
I don't go out to Home Depot because it's a pain driving out that way. Guess I'll have to try the ACE Hardware across the river from now on if they close this one.

I shop mostly at OSH instead of Lowes or Home Depot - mainly because OSH employs people there who know what they are doing and know hardware very well. At Lowes and Home Depot you're lucky if an employee even remotely knows where anything is located within the store.

The official news from OSH about this acquisition:
First and foremost, Orchard has reached an agreement to join Lowe’s as a separate, standalone business. This is great news for Orchard because we will be able to continue improving our stores and merchandise selection to better serve you. We want you to know that our customers will see no changes to Orchard’s stores during this transition – there will still be an Orchard sign in front of all of our locations, and our teams will still dress in green. We’ll continue to offer the same great selection of products, expert advice from the sales people you already know and trust, and all of our typical sales and loyalty programs. In short, we’ll be the same Orchard, but we’ll be in a much stronger position to serve you in the future.
To help us achieve these goals, Orchard filed voluntarily petitions under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code. Given where the economy has been lately, companies of all sizes have used this process to address a broad range of issues. You have likely read about many of these companies and have probably experienced first-hand how they continue to serve their customers and ultimately thrive as a result of the actions taken. It’s the same for Orchard – we will remain open for business as usual through this process. This is simply the next step in our ongoing effort to create an even stronger Orchard for the future.
So, if you’re asking yourself what all of this really means for our customers, the honest answer is, “not much.” Our Company’s leadership is working hard to move through the process by the fall but, in our stores, it’s just the normal flurry of summer activity… grilling, gardening and spending a lot more time outside.
We hope you’ll come visit us soon and look forward to helping you with your home and garden projects for many years to come. We appreciate your ongoing business and confidence in our team.
