The world economy continues to weaken and global poverty continues to grow at an alarming rate.  Increasingly hunger and famine’s dark shadow continues its march over cities, countries, and regions. It has been reported that in the east end of London, UK homelessness has doubled in the last 3 years. In Australia it is reported that 600,000 Australian children live in poverty, with 18,000 kids homeless.  In the US and Canada homelessness and police brutality continues amidst poverty, while the criminalization of the homeless  continues to spread not only in Europe for the crime of sleeping in the rough but in America as well.

It is in this global dynamic of increasing  human suffering that Global Homeless Day 5/5 was conceived.

Pretend you're homeless for one day?

Maybe this socialism thing does not work so well.....?    Ya think....?

And "police brutality".......?   I hope you never need their help someday, car wreck where they pull you out of your burning car, giving you CPR because the FD is not there yet......?   Or at 0400 when you get you realize somebody is breaking into your house.......    Yep, all that is very brutal.   Chris

"Promote your favorite non profit or charity or start your own grassroots  homeless charity day by volunteering and hosting  a Global Homeless Day 5/5/2014 event !"

This kinda reminds me of the question I was asked at Whole Foods tonight. Did I want to donate to their charity to provide micro loans to homeless people who have nothing? Aaaaaw..no. I prefer to help people out along the way throughout the year, not on an "officially" designated day. And I much prefer to help out people I know. I think we all know someone who needs a little hand up.

Last week, I decided to give a friend a thank you card with a monetary gift because I really appreciate our journey over the past 2 years. He has no insurance yet, delayed signing up for Obamacare as he was having trouble navigating the system, even with a broker, and his newborn is symptomatic of diagnosis of which the only treatment is surgery. Quite a worrisome situation when uninsuranced and low-income. Turns out his chlld doesn't have the diagnosis, but now he has a huge specialist bill. So, perfect opportunity to do a little more.

I was always taught that as a good samaritan that I don't need to go bragging to the world what I do for others (so not so keen on the idea of posting on the global website). And I usually don't. Just using the current situation as an example.

Take away addiction, mental illness, and those who like to live on the fringes of society and homelessness is negligible.

You have to love Whole Foods. They sell $10.00 seaweed water but ask for donations.

Global Homeless Day - great, now I have to go out and buy one more greeting card?... and what do you get the homeless person in your life - some flowers maybe?
