OBSCENE SALARIES

Hi Everyone.  There are some things that really need to be sent out.  I was not aware of this either.

THE WORK ETHIC WE INHERITED GROWING UP HAS FALLEN PREY TO THE 'WELFARE' SYSTEM

The Cato Institute released an updated 2013 study (original study in 1955) showing that welfare benefits pay more than a minimum wage job in 33 states and the District of Columbia. Even worse, welfare pays more than $15 per hour in 13 states. According to the study, welfare benefits have increased faster than minimum wage. It’s now more profitable to sit at home than it is to earn an honest day’s pay.
Hawaii is the biggest offender, where welfare recipients earn $29.13 per hour, or a $60,590 yearly salary, all for doing nothing.

Here is the list of the states where the pre-tax equivalent “salary” that welfare recipients receive is higher than having a job:
1. Hawaii: $60,590
2. District of Columbia: $50,820
3. Massachusetts: $50,540
4. Connecticut: $44,370
5. New York: $43,700
6. New Jersey: $43,450
7. Rhode Island: $43,330
8. Vermont: $42,350
9. New Hampshire: $39,750
10. Maryland: $38,160
11. California: $37,160
12. Oregon: $34,300
13. Wyoming: $32,620
14. Nevada: $29,820
15. Minnesota: $29,350
16. Delaware: $29,220
17. Washington: $28,840
18. North Dakota: $28,830
19. Pennsylvania: $28,670
20. New Mexico: $27,900
21. Montana: $26,930
22. South Dakota: $26,610
23. Kansas: $26,490
24. Michigan: $26,430
25. Alaska: $26,400
26. Ohio: $26,200
27. North Carolina: $25,760
28. West Virginia: $24,900
29. Alabama: $23,310
30. Indiana: $22,900
31. Missouri: $22,800
32. Oklahoma: $22,480
33. Louisiana: $22,250
34. South Carolina: $21,910

As a point of reference the average Middle Class annual income today is $50,000, down from $54,000 at the beginning of the Great Recession. Hawaii, DC, and Massachusetts pay more in welfare than the average working folks earn there. Is it any wonder that they stay home rather than look for a job. Time for a drastic change. America is virtually bankrupt.
Are we Nuts or what? How do we un-do this type of stupidity on the part of Americans?
This is crazy!

Salary of retired US Presidents
$180,000 FOR LIFE
Salary of House/Senate....$174,000 FOR LIFE
This is stupid.
Salary of Speaker of the House ....$223,500
FOR LIFE!
This is really stupid.
Salary of Majority/Minority Leader $193,400
FOR LIFE!
Ditto last line.
Average Salary of a teacher .. $40,065
Average Salary of Soldier DEPLOYED IN
AFGHANISTAN .. $38,000
Think about this.
Nancy Pelosi will retire as a Congress Person
at $174,000 Dollars a year for LIFE.
She has retired as SPEAKER at $223,500
ayear.
PLUS she will receive an additional $193,400 a
year as Minority Leader.

That's
$803,700
Dollars a year for LIFE including FREE medical
which is not available to us ... the taxpayers
She is just one of the hundreds of Senators
and Congress that float in and out every
year!

I think we found where the cuts should be made!
If you agree ..... pass it on, I just did.

Hold on a minute.... is that true? As they move through the various leadership positions, they accumulate the pension from each position?  That can't be.  If so, it truly is time for a revolution.

Just can't even... no...just no... My husband works his heart out and has a very good job but we still struggle, yet there are people out there leaching off of the hard, HONEST work of others.

I'm going to move this to the politics section.

And won't comment on it once I move it, but know that this is actually a mashup of a couple of different email chains. The original Obscene Salaries email only contained the section about congressional salaries, not the welfare thing.

The original was widely debunked because Congressmen and women do get a pension after they retire, and it is based on a percentage of their salaries.

Not only won't Nancy Pelosi retire with 3 six-figure salaries, the author can't even add. He gives 3 numbers which add up to $590K and he says it adds up to $803K.

Now, someone has added the Cato welfare study, where they calculate benefits received, and inflate them to make them a taxed equivalent. Welfare recipients are not getting $5000 per month to stay at home. That's so ridiculous everyone would do it.

I have a niece who is on welfare. I am told she gets about $600 per month between foodstamps/EBT and cash. That's $7200 per year, not the $37K claimed in the email.

I am not an advocate for welfare nor for congress and their salaries, but the isn't the truth enough?

The website would have more credibility if you just delete false garbage like this.

Sorry.

You want to know obscene? Check out salaries for various city employees. Or school board employees... or any number of state board positions.

This guy oversees 6600 students, and makes 663k in compensation... http://www.dailybree...nsation-in-2013

Cashier and tool booth operators making 100k http://www.examiner....s-massachusetts

Lifeguards making 200k  http://www.ocregiste...uards-http.html

Or BART  http://calwatchdog.c...eserve-0-raise/

heck, our own city CLERK makes over 100k PLUS 4800 in "allowances " for a car and electronics.

The list goes on and on... your kids money being promised. Silence is consent...

The two old people who run snopes.com are still seriously considered the all knowing guru's for every thing ever said on the internets?

I should start a website with the same claims...

Raise the minimum to be on par with the COL in seach state then regardless of circumstances deny welfare to any recipient on drugs or on any other public assistance or any further public assistance after 1 year, except:

the first year after graduating from a four year university and only after one degree.

Pay into smarts and hard work rather than against it

I was thinking about the lifeguards making 200,000 dollars, and I don't think I mind that much. I mean if I was drowning in the ocean, would I want a seasoned vet, who I know if comfortable with the situation and has done this multiple times for years; or a teenager's summer job. Plus they put their lives on the line every day they work.

Except his true cost is more like 400,000 per year, as you will be paying his "safety retirement" from 50 - 85. So twenty years from now, when pension costs are eating more of the operating expenses of every city, county and state budget than ever (currently around 18% up from 4%... much, much more in some areas), we'll be getting fewer lifeguards because we can't afford new hires AND the ridiculous pension.

Think of it this way. If you hit a 3 million dollar lotto, you could get 150k a year...for only 20 years. Oppose that to 180k, plus COLA for LIFE. Working for the state, or city, should not be more lucrative than hitting the lotto.
