Technology start-ups and entrepreneurs have new friends and supporters in town, as Velocity Venture Capital launches their new Entrepreneur's Campus and Incubation Center.

The new, high tech campus, on the site of the 102 year old Granite School in Folsom,  provides space where start up companies can access facilities, equipment and guidance to grow their businesses.

While still in the process of building out, the campus features work space, board rooms, audio-video, think tank space, idea sharing, 3d printing and prototyping, and even ping pong and pool tables.

Jason Law, Venture Associate at Velocity, says one of their goals is to "put  Sacramento on the map as a nationally recognized innovation economy."

One of the ways they are doing that is through the 'Showcase Accelerator' program, where they select 10 'early or seed-stage tech companies' out of a pool of hundreds, and run them through 10 weeks of educational mentorship, featuring guest speakers, meeting with successful entrepreneurs, brainstorming, and worskshops on topics such as forming a team, business development, intellectual property, legal and more.

Another program they offer is 'Epic Office Hours', which Law calls, "speed dating for start-ups".

Held once a year, 50 companies or entrepreneurs will get to sit down for 15 minutes, one-on-one with each of 19 investors.  When the 15 minutes are up, a bell rings and they rotate to the next table to pitch their ideas, hoping to find a match.

After today's 'Epic', Velocity will be hosting an open house where the public can come and tour the facility, meet the team and share ideas for the growth of the Folsom technology community.  Open house is from 5pm to 630pm today, and is free and open to the public.

If you're lucky enough to be on the VIP list, you'll later be treated to dinner with Chris Granger, COO of the Sacramento Kings, and Corporate Development Executives from Samsung and Qualcomm.

Also, mark your calendars for July 28 , when they will be hosting the 'Entrepreneurial Drive' golf tournament at Serrano Country Club.

The Entrepreneur's Campus is located at 909 Mormon St - Folsom CA 95360.

Sandman,

Wouldn't that be the 909 Mormon Street location referenced in the article?

Found some interesting history in this doc:

Sorry, I can't figure out how to cut and paste the first paragraph with the pertinent info.

How about a location/address?

It's FCUSD property.  It could no longer be used as a school so they were using it for various offices, but the district no longer needed the property when they built the new district office off of Folsom Blvd., and so they've recently leased it (sold it?).  It's on Mormon Street across the street from the park that's on Mormon St.

Anyway, 4thgen is right that it's a great use for it.  Good suggestion at the town hall, cw68.

I doubt my post was the impetus for it, but thanks. This is very good for Folsom.

Hey, you never know.  Keep your ideas to yourself and that's where they stay.  Throw it out there and a lot might miss the mark, but it's the one that sticks that counts,

Ah hah! It was a scanned pdf, which was why I couldn't cut and paste. Here's the pertinent info:

The Granite School located at 909 Mormon Street was designed by George C. Sellon who became California’s first State Architect in 1907. The Granite School building operated as a school from its completion in 1912 up until 1967. From 1967 to now the site has been used as a FCUSD corporation yard, storage and for office use. The building is identified on the City’s list of locally significant historical structures.

It was a fantastic event!

Great crowd of people a lot smarter than me!

These guys want to put this region on the map as a hub of technology and innovation to rival Austin and the Bay Area.
