A friend took me here for lunch today. Neither of us had been before and we enjoyed our meal. Portions were plentiful. We each wanted a half rack of ribs, and Molly recommended that we get the meal for two (including four side dishes and two beverages), which worked out to be a better deal. I ended up taking home leftovers. :)

The ribs were meaty.

I enjoyed the sauce.

The baked beans were unique and a bit spicy; I loved the flavor but unfortunately I have to watch spicy food.

I've never had fried corn before and it was also very tasty.

My friend had the beans and the freshly prepared cole slaw (they make each batch as ordered).

Service was excellent; thank you, Molly!

One issue: the website needs to be updated, but the owners forgot their login information and can't figure out how to get in to make the necessary changes. Had my friend not seen an article on Bouchane's in Sactown Magazine I wouldn't have known you can dine in (website has a take-out menu and info on catering). Apparently pricing also has to be updated. If you're a techie and have any ideas for this mom and pop store, consider contacting them.

Edit: Apparently they spell it "Boucanes" without the apostrophe. The article in sactown mag used the apostrophe. *sigh Yeah, I'm a stickler for those kinds of things.

I went there recently for the first time. I had heard mixed reviews and wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was pretty good.  I agree, the beans and fried corn were unique and damn good!

Where is it?

In the shopping complex next to the DMV.  Their brisket is one of the best I have ever had.  And macaroni is good ,too.

Hm, not sure. I've got the take-out menu and it only lists soft drinks, tea, water, and lemonade. You can reach them at 817-1015.

Deb's advice to call is probably best, but I thought I'd pass along a June 2015 Yelp post:

"I would give this place a 5... But I just hated their baked beans with the passion. But where this place sold me was there actual proteins. The BBQ was off the hook. The ribs literally fell off the bone and the trip tip was orgasmic. The customer service was really warm and friendly as well. Their sides can use some help but they outright conquered the meat department. You absolutely can't beat the prices for the overall quality and portions of food. A hungry man becomes a happy man here. Their alcohol choices are pretty good too. Great IPA's."

Is it better than Dickey's or the other BBQ places?

I didn't care for it when I tried it.  For one it was terribly expensive.  THey don't include any sides with their sandwiches and I think I ended up paying close to $12 for pulled pork sandwich and bean (and water...).  The pork had zero smoke ring or smoke flavor and was very bland.   I swear the beans I had that day were exactly like Pork n' Beans out of a can with some brisket meat mixed in.

I would be willing to try some other menu items but definitely not what I ordered before.

I really like DIckey's ribs.  They have some of the best around.

I don't want to say anything explicitly disparaging. But I've been once and that was enough. Within 10 minutes, I'm partial to Sierra Smokehouse.

Sierra Smokehouse is very good.  Dickey's is closer, but also very good.  The ribs and sliced brisket are my favorites.

Sierra Smokehouse is the best bbq I've found on the West Coast. Period.

We heard about this place and went to see if they were as good as they claimed to be. I don't know if we'll go back again, the meat was tasty but cold. I like my BBQ hot like when it comes off the rack, but the sampler plate was lukewarm at best.
