The parking lot across from Sophia Parkway is now open.
It had been closed during the long construction project.

This area is a popular starting point for hikers, dog-walkers, and cyclists

who want to walk the trails around the lake and the pathways atop the dikes.

Although the signage indicates its a "Fee Area" both the sign in the parking lot

and the collection box are covered with plastic wrap.
I suspect the plastic cover will come off soon, and they will be collecting the fees,

but for now it appears to be free.

Parked in the lot last weekend BUT if they start charging (hope not...) I will just go back to parking along Sophia and using the cross walk across Green Valley. Suspect many others will as well.

Suspect there will be "No Parking At Any Time" signs along Sophia soon.

I hope you are right, but years ago one could park along Folsom Auburn Road to get into Beals Point area and they made it a no parking area.

There used to be areas to park along Green Valley to park instead of Sophia. Gone.

There used to be a couple parking spots below Rainbow Bridge where you could park free of charge. Gone.

The Folsom Dam Overlook used to be a nice place to park and look at the lake with no fee. Gone.

Having been born/raised in this state I have learned one thing and that is you can't compare ANYTHING to the way it USE to be years ago. Nothing seems to be free any longer. They want to nickel and dime you at every turn...
