Often HS athletes are labeled "dumb jocks", especially if they are successful. I personally believe that athletics, like many youth activities, not only enrich a kids life but provides them experiences that often make them outstanding members of their communities, husbands and fathers. My limited personal knowledge of the kids on the 2010 Folsom football team left me awestruck on numerous occasions. Their accomplishments on the field often overshadowed just how special this group of young men were / are off the field. I could carry on extensively about the great things these young men have went on to do on the field, in the classroom and their communities, but a recent event has exemplified my thoughts and confirmed my bias.
How many of us have been to Washington DC? How many have been to the White House? How many have been invited guests to the White House?! My guess is that the # of hands raised dwindled to ZERO quickly. All politics aside, an invitation to the White House is a rarity that few will ever receive. Well, at least two of the 2010 D2 State Champions have been invited as guests of the POTUS less than 6 years after HS graduation!
Marcus Hendricks was part of the Air Force 2015 team invited by President Obama and now Jordan Richards of the 2017 Patriots team was invited by President Trump! Again, in and of itself not earth shattering, but pretty impressive! Combined with the knowledge of all the other great things this group has accomplished, I hold a lot of optimism for our future!
