  Amazon, Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and JPMorgan-Chase said they plan to collaborate on a way to offer health-care services to their U.S. employees more transparently and at a lower cost. The three companies plan to set up a new independent company “that is free from profit-making incentives and constraints,”

 

Buffett has long bemoaned the cost of U.S. health care. Last year, he came out in favor of drastic changes in the U.S. health system telling PBS NewsHour that government-run health care is probably the best approach and would bring down costs.

Using profit from existing well run businesses to pay for the health care of the employees of those businesses is just great Tio Vinny....!   That is called a free market solution, well run businesses with a critical mass of people, healthy pool of people that is, because they are all working.  You really don't have that 10 to 15% of the general public in the pool who don't take care of themselves, don't care about their health, are extremely overweight, on drugs or indulge in high risk behaviors.  This is not profit free healthcare...!

 

It is PROFIT DRIVEN HEALTH CARE......!

What's dirty is a business plan that profits from squeezing all the life-blood and money out of a sick person

when they are dying.

My dad worked for a cement company in Cupertino, CA, from the late ‘50s until his retirement in 1989. That company, Kaiser-Permanente Cement, did the same thing. Definitely profit driven healthcare...beneficial to all the companies Henry Kaiser owned as well as his employees. Free market solution!

I am all for this. Government is not the solution.  If these guys make it work and bring the numbers down, it could be HUGE for health care. Notice that the markets tend to think they will have an impact as current health care company shares are dropping substantially right now.
