We have a little less than one month to go. Our son is due in early August. What are the signs of labor to start running to the hospital?

Why do I ask these questions? Well, first of all this is our first puppy. Secondly, we took the Child Birth Class from Kaiser and the teacher was not very prepared and not very good. I have some good ideas of the signs to look for in early labor and labor, but we are a little nervous since the class we took was not very good.

It's such a hard thing to judge...B/c everyone is so different. But I will try...

1.If your water breaks...GO!!! And water breakingdoesn't ALWAYS have to be a big "gush" of water...it can also be a "slow leak". If you think you may have a slow leak, but aren't sure, I would recommend going in to the hosp anyways (or sometimes your OBGYN will check it in the offic if you like)just to make sure.

2.Contractions-They say not to come in until they are relatively close together and you cannot talk through them...but that rarely happens. I was in the hospital 3 times with contractions 2 minutes apart, dialated to 5...and I still didn't have Dean until a week later?!

I hope this helps a little...good luck to you guys and be prepared at ANY time! The first trip to the hospital for us was at 35 weeks and I was dialated to 5...but he held off until 36 weeks:) They will come out when they are good & ready!

As was pointed out, it's very different for each pregnancy. When I was pregnant with our son, we headed for the hospital four times in three days -- the first three times, false alarms (one of those times the contractions stopped as we approached the hospital -- we turned around and went home without going in). My Braxton-Hicks contractions were coming at regular intervals, so we thought they were the real thing -- only to find out they weren't. We were living in San Jose and were delivering at Stanford, so these weren't quick jaunts. Finally my water broke, and because I didn't flood the house, my husband thought it was another false alarm. I finally convinced him to wake up and go with me, because I was going with or without him. If I was going to err, I was going to err on the side of precaution -- especially with the hospital so far from us (and not knowing what traffic would be like). It's amazing how much like the real thing the Braxton-Hicks contractions can be.

Hahahahahahaha you caught me. I drew that this morning at 5 AM, was still sleepy. I mean 37 weeks of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you took those Child Birth classes you have to agree with me. They created more confusions, more spouse arguments!!!!!! It overwhelmed you.

Erring on the side of precaution is always the best course. We have been sent home from the hospital three times in the last couple of weeks. Mommy2sydney had a pretty good list, but it truly varies on the pregnancy.

The ladies here have given you the best advice. Speaking from experience (twice) I can tell you that they are 100% right.

The water breaking is the best sign its time to get to the hospital asap...trust me, you'll definately know when that happens

just keep a level head, keep everything packed and ready to roll at all times.

My first child was born at 4am, the next one at 1pm so you never know when its going to happen

It's a good thing that we selected Kaiser South Sac as our delivery hospital! Because pretty soon we will temporarily move to Elk Grove where my in-law family live, so that my mother-in-law can lend a hand. The distance from the Elk Grove house to the hospital is only 5 miles.

To me, it seemed like 37 months at times!!

I was induced with both pregnancies........6 days late. I had contractions, but nothing was regular and that is one of the keys.....the contractions will be pretty regular and also, they will be getting closer and closer together. Like someone else said though.....it varies all over the map from woman to woman. The hospitals are pretty tolerant when it comes to false alarms.
