What is everyone using to stop viruses, spam, worms, spyware, and all the other fun security threats.

I have been using Norton for anti-virus and personal firewall. Spam Assassin and SpamPal for spam. Microsoft anti-spyware beta for spyware. I have recently moved to and currently testing AVG for viruses and Zone-Alarm for personal firewall. At work I am behind a PIX and at home I use M0n0wall for hardware firewalls. Just wondering what others are doing?

Sounds like you're very well protected, can't think of anything in addition to what you already have installed that would be of any further help.

why do you use more than 1 firewall and more than one anti-virus software? Is the load worth it?

I'm going to have to plug this in... I'm sorry, but I use Mac OS X, that's about all I need smile.gif

But we're talking Windows so here goes:

Anti-virus: Panda Anti-virus (Small, low memory footprint AV, good, fast execution.)
Anti-virus: Norton Anti-virus 2005 (Only on SPECIAL occasions)

Firewall (Hardware based): Smoothwall (based on GNU/Linux) (all packets travel through this machine before arriving in my personal network,)

Firewall (Software based): Sygate Personal Firewall

Anti-spam: spamassassin and exim (running on mailserver box running GNU/LINUX)
Anti-spam (front-end): Outlook Filters

anti-spyware: Windows AntiSpyware Beta (THis is actually really good.)

Anti-Viruses/Spyware/Spam/malware/worms/trojans: MOZILLA FIREFOX.

I don't own any anti-virus software.

I have ad-aware, no ads, and webroot spysweeper, and whatever protection comes with Windows XP.

Ad-Aware, Mozilla Firefox, AVG ANti-Virus, Linksys hardware router/firewall, 256-bit WEP and no broadcast SSID, and Sygate personal.

Its true actually, Mozilla Firefox, the anti-anything. I go to a site with IE, boom boom boom viruses. Firefox, pffft nothing. I'm suprised at how well Microsofts AntiSpyware Beta actually works.

Steve you really should be running some sort of anti-virus software. Try AVG they have a free version.

While I wouldn't recommend it, I ran my primary computer for nearly a year without any AV at all. Just kept up to date with MS patches, used Firefox instead of IE and of course never opened email that looked suspicious or was unexpected. No problems.
