Riley going under Sutter???

Is that in the plan????

That would take a long time to do and traffic would have to be rerouted for quite some time. ????

A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

It would be interesting to see that happen and would be worth it if it reduced congestion in the long run.

No, not "in the plan" as yet, but in the pool of ideas to revitalize the area.

The biggest concerns I see are cost and as you mentioned, traffic impact.

Doing such a dramatic change would highly impact traffic circulation in the short-term. Long-term, it would be fabulous, truly opening Sutter up to pedestrian traffic! Weighing and mitigating the impact are certainly precursors to any digging. As a resident, I'd much rather have a few months of traffic parked directly on my lawn just to get this done!

Cost, by the way, is covered from a seperate revitalization fund, that is seemingly quite capable of making this happen.

Looks like a great idea!!! I would love to see Old Town get a little nip-tuck. Exciting stuff.

Seems like overkill. Why not just not allow cross traffic on Sutter from Riley? The Rainbow bridge can be used just for those that want to come to the HD. If you want to go to the CBD, then cut over on Glenn and if you want to head to EDH, take Blue Ravine. It sounds crazy, but I think it would work and it would costs millions less. Sutter St needs to be much more pedestrian friendly. The 600 and 700 block need to be reunited.
