Vehicle Broken Into During Morning Hours 1 Feb 2006

I had gotten up around 6 AM to pick up the paper before it would get wet and did not notice it then so it could have happened between 6 and 7 AM.
All that was taken was a black raincoat out of the passenger seat. There was nothing else out in plain sight that anyone would have wanted. I can not believe someone would break in for a raincoat. They may have thought there was something else under it, I guess.
We would have gladly given the person $20-$40 if that is what they wanted. Now my daughter has to pay the $100-$150 deductible to get it fixed.
We called Folsom's finest and they were here within 45 minutes to take a report. It was shift change time or it would have been faster.
Remember what is yours is yours, but someone else wants it. Be aware.
I am going to put up remote sensors on the garage and set it up so when they go off, it sets off an alarm inside.
I will also have my bat and gun ready.

I leave my vehicle unlocked in the driveway as have nothing inside that has any value and would rather let them in than have them break in.
If you need a good recommendation on a sensor set up with inside notification, check out http://www.x10.com. they have a number of systems for good prices for cams, detectors etc. I have several and they do work- I have a cam and also sensors so I know when someone is approaching my door. Have another one with camera and floods that also turn on a light or radio ( plug in) when activated. They have a large variety of goodies...
Oh BTW- make sure you drag the perp into the house before you use the gun...

Another great day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

I don't think so, but will ask.
Thanks
Sorry to hear about that. I live down the street from you and usually leave that house around 6:30am. I wish I would have seen the dirtbag that broke into your vehicle. The thieves are out praying on victims during the A.M. hours. When you get ready to leave for work do not leave your car outside and let it "warm up" unattended. Many cars are stolen each AM by thieves looking for warm ups.

We're going to put up motion lights, and he's gotten an alarm put in his truck. It's infuriating that people do this sort of thing
I guess it's a good idea to leave nothing on a seat, since they're now taking rain coats?!

That fit in my garage????? Guess I'll go buy a dang Volkswagon Beetle or maybe one of those sporty Mini Coopers???? The way garages are built now a days, it is impossible to pull my gas guzzling SUV-beast in without hitting something. I say they start building garages around the gas guzzlers.....
Either buy a smaller vehicle or a larger garage. Or don't complain that your vehicle gets broken into. Actually, of all the people I know with SUVs/trucks none have a problem fitting in their garages, but they don't have the packrat stuff that it seems others do.
I suppose it's a personal choice.

Seems like these are a whole lot of good reasons to CLEAN OUT YOUR GARAGE AND PARK IN THERE! And don't buy vehicles that can't fit in your garage.
I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect to be able to park your car on the street with a rain coat in it and not have it broken into. The people who steal and vandalize are in the wrong - not the people who can't or don't park in their garage.
Some residents don't have two-car garages. Some residents don't have garages at all. That's just the way their homes were built. These types of break-ins are going to happen every so often, but let's place the blame in the right place here.
