Coool....

Oh by the way - the score currently as I understand it is THOR 3 strikes and the rest only a few pins.... more later on your normal sports channel ...

One of the last claps of thunder made the glasses in the cupboard "ring".

It shook us up at Intel too. After a while, it was clear that they weren't emptying dumpsters outside smile.gif

Very weird. We are in ER on the top of a hill, so we were able to see this funnel cloud very clearly. (Sorry, I didn't think to get the camera. Frankly, we were a little concerned. I had never seen the "real thing" before.) We watched it decrease in size, and then just disappear into the clouds. Then we received a little hail.

About 30 mins. later, I went to the high school to pick up my son from athletic practice. The football field was white with hail. It actually looked like snow. The roadsides and fields along side Hwy. 50 from Prairie City to E. Bidwell are also white.

Check the news tonight. We saw two news vans taking pictures, etc.

What's the difference between snow and a lot of hail that stays on the ground for more than an hour?

Seriously....I don't know!

Well, snow is the result of water freezing in a specific pattern, and appears as that light fluffy flakes we are all so familiar with.

Hail is the result of rain attaching to a speck of dust, the convection currents in the cloud rotate that speck around several times in the turbine of the thundercloud, and with each cycle inside the cloud, the frozen water attracts another layer of ice to itself. This then falls as small spheres of ice, which is much different than the lighter snowflakes.

That's my limited knowlede take on the phenom. I'm sure there's a meteorologist in the crowd who could go into much more detail, and with more accuracy.

I don't know either, but we were able to make a snowball (hailball?) from it.

The sky has that creepy half-bright, half-dark look to it. Lots of thunder, but nothing more yet.
