Ok, I think I'm too excited. I'm just sick of looking at the crap on the side of my house.

If you have something large you want to get rid of and you live in zone 5, then call for an appointment

Is there a way to enlarge that map? It's too difficult to read that small. Any suggestions? Thanks.
It may depend on which browser you are using or how your tool bars are set up. In my case when the "tiny" map opens up, on the tool bar it indicates 43% - click on the "+" key and increase it to 100% for EZ reading.....

I just phoned the city to find out what zone I'm in (cause that map is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too small to read). The person I spoke with said that after May 1 the zones won't matter.... they'll be switching to a different clean-up format. According to her, we'll be entitled to pick-up service for large items 3 times per year, scheduled through their office. This new schedule format will be explained in the city newsletter and in information to be sent to our homes.
I am sorry to hear this. It is the second change in two or three years for the cleanup program.

Isn't this better? The way I see it, if you have a bunch of junk you want to get rid of, you can call and set up an apointment to have it hauled off instead of waiting for your designated month. You get three of these pick-ups a year; how does that compare to the current system of designated pick-ups? What are the drawbacks as you see them?

The very first city pick-up was so overwhelmingly successful, it kind of proved that people were hoarding a whole bunch of junk and the scheduled pick-up brought an amazing amount of stuff out to the curbs.
When the date for pick up is known ahead, lots and lots of people make the rounds and pick up other people's junk from the curbs. We got some really great deals from that first pick-up, such as garden benches, electric power mower we still use, etc. There was a thread about people claiming other people's junk.
Left up to the individual, I am not certain how successful it will be. That is probably what the city is hoping for because they get much more trash on scheduled pick up days than they want.

We will have to wait to see what the new program is...
As you stated "entitled to pick-up service for large items 3 times per year, scheduled through their office. " could mean that only LARGE items like appliances etc will be picked up and not the majority of the items that we see by the curb on current clean up days in each zone.
Also , Like Farley said, if it is not regular, it will likely just accumulate in peoples yards and houses as many will feel pressured to meet a DATE.... Deadlines are always a good motivator...

Another great day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

The word "large" came from my brain, most likely a misrepresentation! I should have just said "junk." We'll see what the new instructions say; I'm assuming they'll be collecting for the same kinds of items they are now, and that the only difference will be calling for an appointment vs. having a motivating scheduled date.
