Anyone see the new colorful bright orange house on Halidon? About 4-5 houses down from the racquetball club.

I drove by and slowed down in disbelief. This thing is being painted one bright orange/yellow.
And when I came to a stop, there were a group of other home owners grouped up on the otherside of the street sharing (i believe) the same thought...."What the heck are they thinking!?!?!" I looked at the house then at them, they started laughing and then one of them jestured a 2 thumbs down.

I'll need to check with the city to see how they got the Purple home owners to repaint their home.
...here we go again thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

biggrin.gif thank you wise and yiddish knowing one - I promise to use the proper spelling in the future. My great uncle used that saying all the time and its stuck with me over the years.

sorry dude, didn't mean to abuse that term by hacking it with a french mis-spelling... my bad.

on a side note (but related)....

I checked out that link and wow, I did not know that ay-ay-ay was yiddish - I always thought that one was spanish like aye aye aye (or however it should be spelled)

heheheheh - I always liked the terms "Schmuck" but WHOA!! I did not know thats what Putz meant!! (the first part of the definition on that site)

Actually, "oi" isn't French, either. "Oui" means "yes" in French... while "oi" isn't a word at all. smile.gif

"Ay, ay, ay" could be Spanish. Consider the first line of the well-know folk song, Cielito Lindo.

"Ay, ay, ay, ay. Canta y no llores...."

Now we are all a little more multi-lingual! smile.gif.....But this has nothing to do with purple and orange houses!

Yes here we go again trying to dictate to others how to live their lives and what colors they can use. I did an interior design consultation on Halidon, and found it much like most of Folsom bland, tepid, similar colors. Developments are often called cookie cutter homes in design and color.

Fortunately we live on a street of custom homes and people can show their creativity in style and color. On our block there is a big yellow Mediterranean house, a dark brown house, a dark gray and salmon house, a white house with fuscia trim, a dark tan Spanish style, a pure white Palm Beach style, a pale tan with turquoise trim, and a green house with darker green trim. Our house is Sandlewood with Black trim.

Variety is the spice of life. Emerson spoke out against conformity saying it was the product of little minds. J. Frank Dobie wrote "Conform and be dull". De Sallusste (1544-1590) wrote: " Only that he may conform to [the] tyrant custom."

Why do some always feel that anything different is a threat? Live and let live!

Did anyone ever notice that flowers are all not the same or similar colors?

There is a really bright yellow house on Seaton. Totally different from anything on the block.

Reminds me of the story of a mother watching a parade and commented "Oh look, everyone is out of step except my son."
In other words if everyone else in the community feels the house is an eyesore, then the owner ought to listen to the others telling them "what colors they can use." It's simple respect for one's neighbor.

How about the neighbor's respecting the owner's right to choose.

that should take a back seat to the overall neighborhood's desire.

LOL-- biggrin.gif
Sure got that one wrong... Personal choice is NOT a group decision... unless it has a major effect on the neighborhood and certainly the color of a house does not have any real effect on the neighborhood... and dont tell me it will affect the resale value of YOUR house... cause it wont..

I grew up in the 50s and in new ranch style single story houses in Santa Clara were painted in every shade of COLOR one could think of.. and others were re-painted in bolder colors without anyone complaining... this is also true of tracs built in the 60s and 70s. The first house I bought , built in 1972 bought in 1985, was a bright yellow with green trim ( or was it green with a yellow trim ???) ... since I did not like the green, we painted it a blue with white trim... and even the dark blue was not out of line with the other houses of every color of the spectrum...

The change to 'EARTH TONES" started in the 80s and now are so prevalent that I think people have lost any sense of color.. beige carpet and all off white walls inside... I guess owners got used to the bland variations of light brown, not quite white or other totally subdued painting that they think a house with black trim, or any REAL color is an offense to their senses...

We drove through the Woodbridge section of Natomas station the other day and it was such a STARK offense to us that every house was only a minor shade different than any other-... and this was where Farley lived for 10 years...
The next developement over - The Bungalows- has a very nice variety of colors including quite interesting door colors that the original builder put in and those that are repainting their house are using more colors and even bolder contrasts on trim... and most look very nice..

Color , both inside and out are making a comeback so dont be suprised to see more exciting and colorfull house in your neighborhood...

It is actually nice to see.. and if yo udont like it- dont look .... cool.gif

Cheers

Slippery slope there, fella. In this free country, a neighborhood's desire is secondary to the rights of the person who owns the place. While I don't know that I'd want a neighbor to paint his house purple, I have to respect his right to do so, if he is not violating any agreed upon terms, such as CC&Rs.

I wouldn't want my neighbor trashihng hiw own property, neglecting it, or otherwise making the neighborhood less attractive, but if he is within the law, not much we can do about it.

Have any of you read 'The Big Orange Splot'? It's a great kid's book, but can teach us all a lesson about tolerance, individuality and freedom.

When a seagull drops a can of bright orange paint on his neat house, Mr. Plumbean gets an idea that affects his entire neighborhood. One by one, his neighbors visit him to try to convince him to paint his house back a normal color. But one by one, their houses are transformed into the houses of their dreams - castles, Taj Mahal, hot air balloons...
