I LOVE sushi!! My whole family loves sushi!

So when my husband and I decided to try this fairly new Japanese Restaurant across Rainbow Bridge (and to the right on Folsom Blvd.) ~ boy, were we very happy to have tried this place! It reminded me of the Japanese Restaurants I frequented in my younger days in Japan. Truly authentic right down to the seating styles with the mats and private seating areas. I have been searching for a truly authentic Japanese/Sushi Bar in the area and I think we have finally found it! Yeh!!! biggrin.gif

I truly believe it is THE most authentic Japanese restaurant / Sushi Bar in Folsom - it even has a Kareoke bar on the top floor and mat seatings like the typical Japanese Restaurants in Japan. The restaurant is tri-level (three floors) and has been completely designed to look like a very authentic Sushi Bar. They have so much room that I doubt you will ever have to wait for a table. They also had separate little booth areas for private party seating which is great for birthdays or romantic dinners. They have curtains to create more privacy. The interior design was artfully crafted. The atmosphere really brought me back to my days living in Japan.

The food was exceptionally wonderful. Our Sushi Chef was personable and even serenaded us. He was recruited from restaurants in New York and Las Vegas. If you love sushi, then I strongly suggest dropping by and having dinner there. You will not be dissappointed. The oyster shooters were yummy too! They have these "sushi Boats" that you could have for your party and it is like a work of art being presented to you. Amazing! The price is comparable to the other sushi restaurants in Folsom and we have tried almost all of them = except Donburi on Blue Ravine. (Anyone tried them? We drove by yesterday and it looked closed. The location of the restaurant is awful! Behind unruly weeds - you can barely notice it exist!)

NaNiHa is great if you like to sing or get together with a group of friends and party, the top floor of the restaurant is a great place for intimate parties and singing kareoke.

As for service, you cannot beat the wait staff at Naniha. They were attentive, introduced themselves personally to you and made you feel like part of their family. We had refills on our drinks without having to bat an eye at them. I was extremely pleasantly surprised with the quality of food, service and price.

If you get a chance, try them out! They are just across Rainbow Bridge, make a right on Folsom Boulevard and they will be on the right side. You can't miss it.

I'm happy that Folsom finally has an authentic Japanese Restaurant! wub.gif

(Also, because it is still a fairly new restaurant - there are NO crowds, no 2 hour waits and you are served right away! I almost hate to talk about them and keep them a little secret to myself - but I want them to stay in Folsom! smile.gif) I have been waiting a long time for a really good sushi place. ;-)

It's funny you've posted about this restaurant; I drove past it just today and wondered if they were any good. We love sushi, preferring Mikuni over any Folsom restaurants. We'll have to give this one a try.

Mikuni's is one of our favorities and we were actually headed over there this evening but decided to give NaNiHa a try. I have to tell you that the quality of food is right up there with Mikuni's. The best part is that we were not crammed into one huge sitting area and could actually have a nice conversation without talking very loud.

NaNiHa - I'm sure will get just as busy once people start discovering it. Oh well ~ as long as they stick around, I don't care. I'm just happy not to have had to wait 45 minutes to an hour to be seated for dinner. smile.gif))))

side not, thanks for posting your pic, OctoberLily! I think it's cool to see what some posters look like - not all of us get to meet each other at the get togethers; it's kind of cool to share. smile.gif

Thanks John ~ I thought it was time to get out of the closet and show my face - especially when I keep missing the Myfolsom gatherings. LOL!

The prices at NaNiHa are comparable to Kiralla, Aloha Sushi, Tokyo Sushi, and Mikunis. Our dinner was below $30 last night but that was because our teenage boys weren't with us and we weren't that hungry. We normally spend about $65 at Aloha Sushi. smile.gif))

My husband and I tried Donburi on Blue Ravine - the one next to Jacks Asian Cafe... It was pretty good. They have Java City coffee over there and also different types of asian coffees.

The prices are extremely reasonable. We were surprised. The sushi rolls were $2 less then at other places where the normal prices are $8 or more.

I did notice that the property owners of the land in front of that complex had mowed their lawn recently. Kudos to them for doing that!! It looks so much better and you can actually see the businesses behind them without peering through tall overgrown weeds.. Good job!! smile.gif

Hi

My husband and I tried NaNiHa the other night and it was wonderful!! I'm a sushi snob...I LOVE Mikuni. I also enjoy Tokyo when I can't leave Folsom. I have tried Taiko twice and it didn't do anything for me. Anyway, we sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chef was very nice. He recommended some rolls to us. The baked rolls were incredible. After we were done he gave us some mussels to try and a cut up orange.

The restaurant was very slow for a Saturday night. I hope all the sushi lovers give them a try.

I find it interesting that Naniha is considered "authentic" Japanese when owned and operated by Koreans and Mexican chefs. I'm not saying that their food is bad, and they have some dishes that are really traditional such as Nato (it's nasty) and the hamachi-kama...and they have also given me some dishes you would never find in other sushi restaurants (whole mini octopus).

Shoki is the ONLY Japanese restaurant that we have found in the area that is owned and operated by Japanese people. However, they are closing and my family and I are going to have to look for other good Japanese restaurants.

Shoki is the only place other than Edoko that served really good ramen/udon. As for Mikuni, it's way overpriced. and Aloha Sushi is good for their rolls but not their hot food, same w/ Kirala.

Another great place that has decent sushi (the raw stuff) is up in EDH by the theatre, and it's reasonably priced. And don't get me started on Taiko.

You don't have to be Japanese to know how to make sushi or other Japanese dishes properly.
